Just curious - did you need to make any hardware changes along with raising the rev limiter, or was my friend misinformed with a bunch of hogwash?

Thanks
I can't speak from authority as an engineer, but it makes sense. Any processor has limits as to calculations per unit of time and data throughput. In an 8-cylinder engine with 32 valves and 8 coils and plugs, there's a lot of things happening every millisecond at high revs. At 7200 RPM, that's 120 revs per second, or .12 revs per millisecond. In that millisecond where the engine makes about 1/8 of a revolution, several valves will be in motion, a plug will fire, etc. If the ECU is only able to capture a small sample of the events that are happening then it'll be ineffective at regulating the engine, and efficiency and durability will suffer.
