Yeah, once you take into account boiling and removing the membrane (you don't have to, but I recommend it) and then grilling, its a bit of prep all things considered.
And frankly, they'll still taste nothing like you would get out of a smoker.
If you've got some excess funds lying around, send half to me and use the other half to get the smoker I got. It is about $300 - you throw a bunch of charcoal in and forget it basically - no fiddling around, just let it smoke and they have a bunch of recipes that tell you the time to let it sit in there for.
Plus you check it at the end with a meat thermometer just to make sure. But honestly, mine was so easy. Came out delicious.
