I should have taken your advice earlier! My expansion tank cracked this week and, because this is my only vehicle, I had no choice but to take it into my local dealer (it was losing ~1 liter every 10 minutes of run time). Before the crack, though, it was leaking slowly from the seal. I could not see that earlier on, but as it got worse I started to see residue.

The cooling system on these cars is really dumb, in my opinion. The expansion tank is basically a pressure cooker made of plastic. We all know about the pump too, it was also built with weak plastic components and is prone to failure.
