Excellent post. I could find very little on the net about this task, so this was a great help and incentivised me to tackle this.

So, this afternoon, I set out to replace the bulbs on my Daughter's E84 X1 (2015 MY).

I couldn't get my hand in the aperture, but my Daughter got hers in and pulled out the build with the wiring attached (!!).
My first thoughts were, oh sh*t, the clip's come loose as she said she couldn't find it.

Closer inspection revealed NO CLIP were there.
The housing is a different design with the bulb held in place by two protruding lugs on the housing (at the 3 & 9 o'clock position).

Clearly BMW has heeded the feedback from dealers etc., and re-designed this unit.

So, take heart everyone, follow kurtthewurt's thread and you'll have no problems.

And if your vehicle is a similar age to our (April 2015), who knows, your job will be even easier!!
