The 28i is definitely faster and torquey, but it's not the animal the 35i or 50i becomes with the tune. It is, however, perfect for my needs as a daily driver that sees a lot of highway driving. Hopefully the next trip I have to drive to work, I'll reset my MPG and see how much I'll have lost.

I have plans this summer to buy a Cayman S or a 128i and strip it out and do a full racer. I'll be keeping the X1 as a daily and bike hauler .
There's always something bigger and meaner out there. The Dinan X6 50i I had measured 497TQ at the wheels. But it also drank gas and hwy mileage wasn't much better than in the city. The X1 has proven to be a fun daily drive and not near the gas sucker. Personally I've not seen any loss in mileage with the Dinan tune on the 35i. It still meets/beats the rating for the stock model.
