I have a 2014 X1 (non-navi, base model) and I purchased a backup camera from Amazon. Its one of those ones that attaches on top of your license plate bolts and has its own mirror that clips on to the OEM mirror inside and has a screen.
I routed the wires successfully, but I ran into an issue. The camera only works for like 1 second when I first start the car (i.e. if I start the car, put it into reverse, then park, then reverse, it doesn't work at all the second time).
The issue seems to be in the +/- wires that connect to the camera itself. It seems as if the reverse +/- that I t-tapped into does not have a constant 12v. Does this seem plausible?
I have heard of people adding a relay, but not sure if that would help give me a constant 12v to the rear camera. I am trying to avoid connecting the + wires to the fuse box if possible.
Any tips?
