IIRC, the fill plug for my ZF 6HP is on the right side, toward the rear, not far from the Mechatronics sealing sleeve (which should also be changed while you're in there, IMHO). It was about 10 months ago when I did the procedure, so I am a little fuzzy on exact location, so I apologize for that.

One thing I am certain, I never removed the drive shaft.
