The engine is weak and lacks the energy to move that car as you are used to. The chassis has lots to learn from the old E84.
BMWs 28i has 2 litre engine and 241 HP, even more than the new F48.
Mazda has a 2.5 litre engine that makes 187 HP.
All you nee to do is to jump from your X1 into the Mazda, take the test drive and drive your old guy home. You will love your X1 more.

You will be better of with the M35 X2.

I am in a similar dilema as the new X1 is terrible and the X2 interior sucks compared with old X1.
If they will make the E84 new, I will buy it now, on the spot.
I will buy the X2 as I like the exterior, but expect better materials and luxury interior as right now leaves much to be desired.

I am waiting on a ‘15. I drove a x2 m35 over the winter. I agree with you on the looks of the x2. It’s the size I am after. How would it compare to the X1 35i Msport performance? Age and tech not withstanding. I’m currently rocking a e92 335i. So I’m familiar with the layout.
