One would not want to hold yourself out as a lawyer without being admitted to practice. Being admitted involves more than just taking the bar exam, there is an separate process as well (interviews, applications, oaths, training etc.).

One way to address this frequently done by recent graduates who are in the process of being admitted is to affirmatively disclaim the fact when there may be an implication that they are an atty (for example including "*Not admitted to practice" or something similar in an email signature if sending email from a law firm account.
