There are no storms in Austin. The only thing remotely dangerous (definitely not life threatening) are hail storms. But the ones big enough to be worth mentioning happen only once in 10 years or so. It may be fun to watch a small hail storm, especially for the kids.
Fortunately the kids are gone and I've been in enough hail storms to not want to have my car ruined (totaled) by one. Though, our 1st winter in SLC we watched it snow for quite a while.
