I do that after swapping between winter<->summer wheel sets.
My wheels are ceramic coated, and getting dust and grime off them is super easy. At most +1 wheel cleaner spraying cycle, then rinse off, then done.

I can't get behind the caliper either. I don't care.
If you do, you can clean the inner barrels that you can access, then drive the car 2" forward and clean the areas that you previously couldn't.
Or, just buy gun-metal grey wheels, and you won't be able to see the brake dust!
