How Much Paint Damage Can a Good Detailer Remove? LOOK - Pictures Restored

A buddy of mine who works for our city police department was leaving a parking lot when a guy went around his unmarked car, clipped the rear bumper and decided to run. He didn't realize that he had hit a cop, so imagine the horrified look on his face when those cherries popped on in his rearview mirror.

He told me that he had to turn the car in for repair, and that they were going to give him a pool car until his was fixed. Being a former cop myself, I know what condition most pool cars are in and they are usually on their last leg. He didn't want to give up his unmarked car for that, so he asked me if I could look at his and see if I could repair it. Here what he had going on:

Now notice how dull and lifeless his paint looks. The car was somewhat dirty but that paint was like sitting at church listening to a preacher who likes the sound of his voice and has no concept of time. Painful. So I broke out my polisher, some 3M compound and polish and went to work, while he watched. This was the end result.

And this last picture is the one that will really let you know if all the damage is gone. When you shoot the flash off into the paint, that will reveal every swirl mark that is hiding in your paint. As you can see, swirl marks can't hide from The Junkman. I don't fake the funk. The only thing you see in this picture is the pearl that is mixed into the paint, which makes the car's color change depending on what angle the sun is hitting it.

He asked me if I could do the rest of the car so that the whole thing looked good. I told him that they didn't pay him enough at the department for him to be able to afford me to do that.

Junkman, shining out.
