Getting my new car ceramic coated as we speak, and given the small extra charge I am also getting my wheels ceramic coated. Have had that done in the past to 2 sets of my wheels and give how much the M brakes like to dust, it really makes the cleaning/washing much easier.
I have also personally coated a new set of wheels, but mostly because they were brand new and off the car already. So as other have said, definitely a nice to have, and do it yourself if you can.
