Yes, and it is not strange at all. The Plugin function, which is part of BMW Apps, is also known as "iPod Out" and was for the exclusive use of the iPhone.
BMW did not even add Android support to 6NR Apps until iDrive 4.2 beginning with 0713 production, and no non iPhone has ever had Plugin functionality.
At least with NBT, the USB Port will support an external hard drive, so you can load one up with Videos, and play them from there.
