Thumbs down Throttle lag issue??

Hey all.

Has anyone on the forums here found their X1 28i to have issues with throttle lag (or acceleration delay / tip-in / initial take off issue etc etc)?

I haven't read anything here, but there's a growing population of people disgusted with BMW not addressing a very real problem (across different platforms - ours included). There's a thread here discussing it --> http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...light=throttle

As it's the wife's car, I don't want her to be in the middle of an intersection, hit the gas, and nothing happens for 2 seconds. (FYI, we're not talking turbo-lag or anything normal like the drive-by-wire system etc)

Anyone having this issue?

^^^ yeah I was hoping that more than one member has experienced this by now (last post on that thread was Oct).
Seems quite prevalent and looking for responses dealing with the issue.

It's a pretty noticeable issue. We've addressed it with our dealer and they say normal, no fix. I hate the E-lag, but I don't drive it that often.

So I've done two things to help remedy the issue somewhat:

1) While at the dealership, I got them to reset the transmission adaptives (they have to do this). Seemed to help a little.

2) Reset the Throttle Body Adaptation:

1. Never touch the break pedal & key remains inserted the entire time
2. Insert key and push START Button
3. Press and HOLD accelerator pedal for 30 seconds (some say 5, some say 25 seconds - I did 30 to be sure).
4. WITHOUT RELEASING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, push the START Button
5. Release accelerator pedal
6. Wait full 2 minutes
7. Start car normally

This may have to be repeated until BMW has an update to correct the issue, but it should help out.

On a side note, I'll be installing the BMS Stage 1 tune soon to see if it'll help even more. The extra power will regardless

Easy solution: just turn off Eco Pro!

(Ok sorry probably not that funny to you but I've had a long day and the easy joke was too tempting )

Mines a Canadian 2012 model, no Eco-mode, ASS, etc (thankfully) w/ N20 motor.

I've only noticed it in Eco Pro and it wants to start in second gear and you need to get moving faster and it downshifts with a lag. It's only happened when I hit the gas hard.

You do realize that Eco pro mode really dulls the throttle response and upshifts early, right?

That IS one of the points of Eco pro: smooth out your throttle inputs in order to save gas. When you do floor it in Eco pro mode it does eventually give you the power, but rather reluctantly and therefore after a delay (that may feel quite long to you).

The best way to be friends with Eco Pro is to really "chill out" (my wife calls it "zen mode") and drive niiiiice and smooooth with sloooow acceleration. If you want to make some rapid progress, quickly accelerate to pass people or dice through traffic just turn it off because otherwise all it will do is just piss you off with very very dull throttle response, and slowness to downshift.

No shit, that's why I said it only happens in Eco Pro. In other words its not an issue unless you are in Eco Pro and you all of a sudden need to get moving. I totally miss your point jnm. If your in Eco Pro and you have to merge in traffic you don't reach for the gear shift and start screwing around with it.

Yes, I've got this issue (2012 Canadian X1 28i) too.

At every acceleration from a dead stop I experience a short delay after pressing the pedal - maybe 0.5 to 0.75 second delay. This in itself is highly annoying.

But occasionally I've experienced a full 1.0 to 1.5 second delay, and when this happens upon attempting to enter flowing traffic, it's downright scary. You just don't know if it's ever going to kick-in, and there's another car coming at you.

I too have asked the dealer about this and been told that it's "normal".

Don't take that as an answer. The dealerships are FULLY aware of the delay, and that is merely a tactic to get rid of you. The SA at my home dealership is a friend of mine, and he said he's had other clients bring this to his attention (some being quite irate about it). BMW Canada (and BMW NA) need enough people to voice their dissatisfaction with the delay before they do something about it. Other series have had identical issues in the past and eventually were given an update which made the problem disappear (link in 1st post).

Like I said, ask the dealership to reset transmission adaptives, AND do the throttle body reset procedure above. It will help a bit in the meantime. But 100% there's an issue that needs to be addressed.

Solution !!! and it's working

From the first reply:

1) Press the Start button once to turn on power. Do not press the brake pedal and do not start the engine.
2) Press the accelerator down to the floor for up to 60 seconds. You should hear clicking to indicate it is resetting.
3) Press the Start button again to turn the power off.
4) Now remove your foot from the accelerator.
5) Wait TWO minutes and start up the vehicle like normal.

I did it before leaving the office today. It's working. The response is better for sure. Good for me

Lol. Well, you could try both and let us know.

But from our first-hand experience, it helps somewhat (but is not a cure).
