28i vs 35i

Hi,

I currently own an e92 N54. I am interested in the new X1, and I tried to build it on the BMW website. With all the same features, the 35i is less than $2000 difference. Does it seem right? Both prices seem a bit much for just a X1. Would next X1 redesign coming out next year?

Thanks!

Next redesign is 2015 or 2016 and based on front wheel drive. What do you mean a bit much, it's the least expensive vehicle BMW makes so I'm not sure what you mean. Compared to a Toyota, Mazda, Honda it's a bit much but you get what you pay for. I paid $44k for a 28 X1 and. Consider it a bargain since its basically an E90 with a new engine and transmission design. Many consider E90 better than or equal to F30 and with the same engine transmission it's a deal in my mind.

You are correct that xdrive 28i and 35i are not much different in price. The 35i includes a lot of options you have to add to the 28i so if you want those options on the 28, the price isn't that much different. Of course, someone can build a 28i without xenons, pano roof, servotronic, etc and it will be way cheaper.

You should select Ultimate Package (which includes Premium Package, Technology Package and Driver Assistance Package). Ultimate Package is $6,650. You saves $750 (if you select the three packages separately, it costs $7400).

Thanks for all the info. I personally think the 28i is over price with all the added packages. I mean you can disagree with me.
If the price difference is so minimal, I think I might as well pick the 35i cause of the inline 6 and extra power. I am interested to see the Porsche Macan which is targeted at small SUV as well.

Double standard...
You are talking about Porches.
It's totally different price range!
How much u think the 28i should be then?
Even if u go with the f30 u will end up overprice. Everyone buy a new BMW knows its not an affordable car! It's a premium cross over

+1 for the 35i, I feel the same exact same way, yet I'm the one waiting for the 42.77 mpg Xdrive 20d. How did I arrive at that you say? Our Aussie friend posted the pdf of the order guide which states combined econ for the x28i at 7.8/100 and the x20d at 5.5/100. Which works out to 30.17 for the x28i and an eye popping 42.77 for x20d and a brisk enough 8.1 to 62. Granted these are both in 6MT form but I'd say if/when they get the 20d here it will easily hang 40 hwy on the board even with added emissions I imagine. If they don't get it here or have a solid date in the next 12 months I'll probably get the 35 and keep the right foot down

I also came across something interesting in the AU order guide that looked as though "servotronic" was an E-assist and was standard on Sdrive models, optional on Xdrives. So maybe the 35 does have electric steering contrary to what's been written?

My research concludes that servotronic (optional on the 28, standard on 35) is E-assist but on X1 xDrive cars it acts like a hybrid- hydraulic with E-assist for added low speed steering boost.

Will do, Im a little scared about the orange as I haven't seen that color in person but heard that others who saw it on the 1m says it rocks! I did take the swatch chip the dealer had outside in bright sunlight and it did look unique and different. We will see soon!

Co-worker has the 1M in Valencia. Its not for the faint of heart or those with sensitive corneas but its definitely unique and aggressive- right at home on the little M for sure.

Yep, with tented windows and the 19's it should look sweet!

Question Do you guys think by adding the mud flaps it degrades the look or makes it better?

Cayenne is starting around $49ks. Macan must be lower than that. If Porsche price it right(I am guessing $45-46ks), Macan can go from $50-60ks depending on the package. Now, 28i is already at $46-48ks and 35i is at 48-50ks (of course depending on package too). I am sure I want to wait and see what Porsche is offering cause my e92 is still running strong.

Guess that would depend on the length of the flaps and how they are hanging...

Not to mention the new steering is terrible in the F30

Porsche Macon w/ all the options as the 28i will be north of 60k, the 19 inch wheels alone will be 4-5k, pano roof 2k, should I keep going?

Just teasing you on your spelling, I'm not really sure what a macan is, nor why I'd want something named after it.

As for the Macan, isn't it just a dressed up Q5? The Q5 seems like a competitor to the X3, so doesn't it stand to reason that the Macan will also compete more directly with the X3 than the X1? Meaning it will be heavier, larger and thirstier than the X1?

I will say that the 2013 Q5 finally ditching that lame, old 3.2L for the 3.0L supercharged motor makes it much, much more appealing when I compare it to the X3, but there's a large part of me that still prefers the smaller size of the X1 to either the X3 or Q5, and by association, the Macan.

Yeah it is Macan. Macon is a typo. Macan is a kind of tiger?

I just read that it is based on Q5. Hope BMW put the 8 speed on 35i next year.

I did say depending on package?! Should I mention again?

35i is much attractive than 28i for less than $2k more.

Thank you for the tiger note, ten seconds of googling left me wondering.

I think the X1 35i is an afterthought for BMW, as it's a North America only thing, and likely being used to just dump the remaining ZF 6 speeds. I'd be a little surprised if it gets the new transmission before the E84 gets replaced.

However with the F30 3er, F25 X3 and the Audi Q5 with both the 4 and 6 cylinder getting the 8 speed, it is a little surprising that BMW is still using the old transmission on the E84 with the 6, but the new transmission with the 4.
