Door Frames

Noticed when I washed my X1 yesterday that the black section of the door frames is very susceptible to showing finger prints, scratches and other marks (see photos below).

Are all X1’s like this?

Maybe there is a product which can be used to clean them more thoroughly?

Hi Danitas,

Any good quality trim cleaner/refurbisher should take out those marks. I have waxed mine so the fingerprints don't mark that plastic, and yes I have noticed that it marks quite easily. I think its one of the lower quality areas on the X1.

To wax it I use Zymol Detail Wax, just rub it in with your fingers and buff off with a microfibre cloth.

I must tell you about a new product though that I came across. Stuff is called "Valet PRO Dionysus Trim Glitz " and its very very good. I used some on my Mini's plastic trim over the weekend and it really works well. Its got a light gloss finish so only really useful for shiny plastics.

To get fingerprints off plastics you may also want to try the same stuff you use to remove bugs/tar from a cars bodywork, I find it works as well.

Hope this helps

Thanks Mario486,

The Zymol is available in Australia, so I will try that.

The Trim Glitz sounds like a great product ... I'll keep an eye out for it's availability in Australia via Google.

Many thanks

Hi Danintas,

I get most of my stuff from http://www.monzacarcare.com They have a good selection and great service. I alsoknow they do ship internationally but not sure what the shipping costs would be halfway around the world!

Bought a product called "Mothers Plastic Polish" and applied after I washed the X1 yesterday ... a big improvement!

Rubbed it on with a microfibre cloth and buffed when it was reasonably dry ... the fingerprints no longer stick

But I have also started using this one :

It works very well, just keep it off glass as it leaves a smudge thats difficult to clean off.

Hmm, £15 postage - might email them to see if that can be reduced. I've also found oddities in the past as some of the car products are deemed 'explosive' so at best can't be flown in, at worst they won't even ship them in...

Still, worth a try. Thanks!

The Zymol wax products are natural, non-petrolium, you can eat it Smells good enough anyway. Shipping should not be a problem. Contains a % of carnauba wax, which comes from a tree. How much, depends on the price Carnauba wax is pretty much the best known at the moment. There are other brands as well. Dodo juice, Swissvax, etc. There is also a very good one on eBay, called Harley Wax. Search for it, it's a lot cheaper but amongst the best I have seen. If you do get some, please read the instructions carefully to get the best result. Or ask me.
