Can someone translate and repost?
I feel that this won't be a fair fight in USA/CAN as the touring doesn't have a diesel or a diesel with AWD. I would have a really hard time picking between the 2 if they both had AWD and the 30d engine. Even the 23d engine would be fine, just give me the choice BMW, and soon.

Not comparable.
It's like comparing salt with sugar. Both are very good but in different ways. I had that dilema recently but than i choose the X1, of course! In my country there's a lot of E91 (most are company cars) and i'm tired of them. I don't want to be one more in thoushands, but have something new and different (at least for a while) |

I agree with you but the car concept is the same if you compare X1 xdrive Vs E91 xdrive. You can buy the same concept with less money. Salu2 |

I would guess that the E91 would handle just a bit better due to the lower center of gravity and shorter suspension travel. This is assuming that you want the handling to be on the sportier side.

The X1 offers a higher driving position which many like and obviously more character and exclusivity than the ubiquitous 3 series. |

I actually went to BMW to buy a 320D, but left with a X1 23.
In Australia, the 320D costs about 5k more than the x1 (is slightly better fitted out). I do not care for Xdrive (no snow, very little rain, no curves) but the main +ve was that fantastic twin turbo diesel motor. The E91 is also very late in its model life and in 2yrs time I will be disappointed. If the choice had both cars with the same motor and same price, and the same model age, I would choose the 3 series tourer every time. In terms of handling, the tourer is better, but the X1 is very good and about 1 million times better than the X3. Taking this all into account, I am very happy to be waiting for my new X1. Also people in Australia - MAKE SURE YOU DON'T PAY LUXURY CAR TAX ON YOUR ACCESSORIES IF YOU BUY A DIESEL (<7 l/100km = LCT goes from $57k to $75k). |

Yes, I was also surprised to actually figure out that for the exact same specs: same engine, same drive type (auto, xdrive, etc); the X1 is indeed cheaper than a series 3 touring.
I personally prefer the X1 looks anyway, but a friend of mine planning on buying the touring changed to a X1 after I've shown him this. Most people just assume the X1 is more expensive than the series 3. |
