Because BMW is in business to make money. They can make money by producing the X1. Why not make it is the better question?

they are a BUSINESS. If you had a company and could make more products to make more money you would do the same thing. If they have the opportunity to make more money and dont then BMW is retards. They are not retards for making more cars. Why does everyone get mad and pissed off when BMW does what it can to make more money?

Too many models....DILUTED QUALITY...bring me back the ENTHUSIAST BMW.
I'm not saying that BMW have not the right to make money....but the expansion in the last years have obviously been too fast...it's not hard to understand when you look at the design of the 1. Also, high volume of sales doesn't mean more profits...it's been proven by brands like GM and so forth. Sometime, low sales volumes of premium quality products with high profit per unit is more profitable than the other way around. Look at premium brands like Miele or Panerai...they are achieving amazing financial success with low volume sales. |

Look at Porsche, the whole reason they made the cayenne was so that they could get more profits to make the entusiast car (the 911) even better. Whats wrong with BMW doing the same thing? Hell, I say if all of their SUVs are making cars like the M3/M5/M6 etc even better then build all the SUVs u want

I agree with most of the comments above too. The reason alot of people who drive bmws don't want more models (cheaper ones, at that) is so they can look like they have some exclusive, Elite car that other's can not possibly attain, very sad but true. Thus all the people against the 1 series, why is bmw creating a cheaper model, blah, blah, blah is what I say.

You make my point with Porche!
Look at the lineup: Boxster, Caiman, Cayenne, 911, 911GT Pretty clean and simple lineup.....they're coming with the panamera after years and years of development. They take their time to do the product right. Perfect example of where I would have loved to see BMW...Concentrating on high-end enthusiast consumers with high-end products. But hey! It's just an opinion! I still have BMW tattooed on the heart! Quote:

If you've owned a BMW, there is a chance you've owned a GM built transmission...
I forget what years/models, but for some reason I have it in my head that e46 xi cars had GM built automatics in them. I haven't seen anything about them notoriously failing either, not everything from GM is bad, they do make some nice engines and drive-train components... That being said, I haven't owned anything GM, unless this 6-speed in my ZHP is a GM built unit, I'm not sure, nor does it really matter... Point is, though, even though you pay for one "badge" doesn't mean there are NOT components from other MFG's in the car. Or from suppliers that supply the same (or similar) products to other car makers, in the end, just about everything is related in a big web, and there is nothing wrong with that IMO. Share the knowledge and technology to make better cars for us all...

You slaggers of the x1 are hilarious. BMW makes cars driver's cars. Full stop. motorcycles, roadsters, sedans, it doesn't matter. I'd happiy support BMW if they'd decided to make a 6000lb. duallie-pickup, so long as it drove like a BMW. They've proven they can make driver's cars out of SUV's, so what's the problem?
Why do i want an X1? i want something that is more versatile and utilitarian than the 1-series (or my own 330ci, for that matter) - but still handles and steers well, is beautifully engineered, and is [hopefully] smaller, lighter, and signficantly better looking than an X3. Since we ain't getting the 1-series hatch on this side of the pond, this is the next best thing. If i could afford to keep a subaru outback and a race-prepped m-coupe in my garage, i would probably do that, but i can't, so the x1 will be it for me. moreover, for those who feel BMW is dilluting the brand by producing SAV's like this, that's garbage. Porsche experienced the same criticism when they built the Cayenne, bbut that car's success afforded them the abiliity to continue building their more focused race- and sportscars (GT3RS, Cayman S). |
