Thanks, Tony. Mine started production on July 10th, and finished on July 22nd (a 12-day production cycle).

ok I have to be a man and apologize as my dealer just EM me and said the following:

Hey xxxxx,
Could you clarify something as I have been having a heated discussion with a few guys on the beamer forum that the X1 is not being in SC and is being made in Germany.

reply:
Built in Germany for now later next year moving to US

So I guess the wait will be a little longer and the good news is the build will be better or at least I think so given the experience I have had in the past. Again I have been wrong before....

My X1 finished production July 21 and BMW of NA says only the dealer can track it the rest of the way. The on line information is a few days behind because it's still showing in production. The X1 is not moving production to the US, I read about every press release and blog I can find regarding BMW and have never seen any mention of X1 moving to SC. You may have it confused with the X4 which will begin production in 2013 or 2014 and it's made off the X3 guts but will be a cheaper and smaller X6 basically.

If you google it you get all kinds of info on it some say SC and majority says Germany. I was first told SC by the dealer and now he change to Germany with production starting in US next year.

All I know I super happy that this is what the truth is due to the QC is much better overseas vers here in the US. Yeh, I know this is debatable but Im just going from my past experiences with my X6....

How did you find out your x1 was finished in production? Mine still says in production and was ordered july12th

Call BMW of NA at (800)831-1117, you get an automated system but eventually just say representative. The girl I talked to actually said it was made in SC and had to put me on hold to verify Germany as the true production spot. You will need your production number.

BMW Magazine, Car & Driver and Road and Track all state the X1 will be built in Leipzig, Germany with no plans of moving them over to the US. My local dealership is expecting their first batch in August and I can't wait to see them in "person" and see how they stack up.

I work for a Tier 1 BMW supplier for the X3 and X5 so I work with the SC plant frequently. There are no plans to build the X1 in the US anytime soon. It is not based off of a platform that they are tooled to build.

That being said, I saw the X1 at my dealership Friday and it moved to the top of my next car list. I have never owned a new car and I think it might be time. I was impressed with it; it reminds me of a much more refined AWD VW Golf that's just a smidge bigger which is exactly what I'm looking for. Being a converted VW guy and already owning an X5d for my wife this would make a perfect stable mate!

After test driving both 28 and 35 xdrives, I may very well buy this sometime next year-
X1xdrive35i:
deep sea blue metallic
black nevada leather
light fineline wood
cold weather
18" style 323 wheels w/performance tires
paddle shifters
I think its something of a bargain for 42 even, had for under 40 I'd guess plus 500 cca rebate.

Looks like the options and package part of the configurator are down, maybe they are giving us more choices!

I can dream...
