Post A couple of questions ...

Okay, so I've got a couple of questions ... Hope someone will be able to assist me

1. The electronic oil measurement tool - I know it says in the owners manual that you scroll through the OBC till you reach the icon displaying oil, but I can't seem to find that symbol in the menu.

2. Panic button - in the owners manual it states that if you hold down the boot lid release button for a couple of seconds it'll trigger the alarm. I can't seem to get mine to work.

3. Is there a way of stopping the OBC resetting to its "default" setting each time you switch the ignition off? I mean I like to drive with the KM's to empty (range) function displayed - each time I start the car it defaults to mileage / trip.

I think the manual has it all... there were so many stuff missing/i couldn't find that I read in the manual like SOS switch and switch to enable/disable front passenger air bags where you have the switch for Panorama and steering heating (This things, I don't think, are available for Australia at all but they were there in the manual).

Pani button didn't work for me either - was trying to scare my son off but it didn't work

I will check 1 & 3 and see...

It seams like someone coded your car previously or these are the default settings coded for your area. If you have cable and coding software I can dig deeper and tell you the exact parameters and modules you need to code.

Look up YouTube videos for fieldsbmwwinterpark. They have some really good videos about the inner workings of most BMW vehicles, and some cool little tips that even my dealer didn't know you could do with your car.

I could be wrong, since they're not available in North America, but I'm pretty sure the diesels have actual dipsticks, not the in-cluster measurement.

Thank you Spydrz!
I had a look under the bonnet last night and discovered a conventional dipstick.

Wish I had one as well...waiting 5+ minutes to check the oil level while the engine is running is somewhat unnerving, especially since I had an E39 that ate oil like fuel...
