BMW Performance Grilles

Hey Guys,

I just got these in and installed. These are the black OEM grills from BMW, I think I may be the first person to get them as I've been bugging the BMWNA accessories manager about them for a while (I work at a dealer), and he finally made them available.

Here's a quick shot of them installed on my X1 35i M sport and a shot of the part numbers.

You can get them from any BMW dealer! They may not be able to look them up in their system yet, but they can order them using the part numbers in my second picture.

They look nice. I've been on the fence about going black on the grille rings myself. You may have just helped me decide. Thanks for sharing.

I think they're a must have for the LMB! There is no other chrome on the car....

EDIT: I have a xDrive35i so I have black exhaust tips too.

Looks great. Retail prices look to be about 44 euro per side. That is about 120 USD. Is that fairly accurate?

That sounds about right, I think they retail for 69/side?

I'll try to remember to take one tomorrow. The lighting was bad when I took these two and it didn't really show up.

I'm going to black my grilles out also, but with plasti-dip instead of spending $150 on it. Real easy to do esp if u already have the black fins.

I am going to ask the new guy dumb question, especially since I haven't taken delivery of my X1 yet. How are these different than the stock ones, on a 28 M-Sport specifically?

The stock are chrome and the others are black. I was going to purchase a new set as I have mine plastic coated now but why spend 120.00 when I can spend 10.00 on gloss spray paint and clear coat them good? The plastic dip is a good way to see if you like it black if not just peel it off.

Im peeling my PD off today and re-painting gloss black with a clear coat. and save $110.00

Anyone seen OEM silver grills for sale? I know they come on 35i and X-line 28i.

Well I don't want to hijack this thread but I just finished mine. I had perviously plastic dip spayed them and could not get a wet gloss look. so I removed the PD and painted them with a high gloss black paint then coated with a gloss over coat. Took all day as I had them looking sick (good) then was trying to take a pic with my freaking phone and dropped the phone and it fell on both frames and FuK up the paint so I had to soaked each frame in paint thinner and scrub all night long then repainted and heated up in oven for 10 min on low . Um good cooking! but it worked and just put them on and it looks 100% better than the PD>>>>>

Nice work - as someone else said, you'll end up with a black car one day

Looking at your pics, I noticed the three covered holes in the bumper. The large one on the right (left on the pictures) is almost certainly for an electrical plug, like if you install an electric oil pan heater, but what are the two small ones for? Mounting a cow catcher?

The large one is for the tow hook (one of two "tools" included in your tool pouch) The two small ones, I believe are for the PDC.

Given that the car is already lifted, that seemed awfully high for a tow hook, but okay, good to know! Most towers would likely loop around a beam anyhow, unless using a tow bar.

The parking sensors I have mixed feelings about - I'm afraid that drivers will start relying on them, instead of just treating it as extra input. But nice to have, nice to have...
