Question Your Favorite Practical BMW?

If you had a choice to buy any BMW (Being as practical as possible), which would you buy and why? Just trying to see what people like out there.

For practicality, probably a 528i.

It has the smallest engine, meaning it probably has the best gas mileage of any of the BMWs while also giving you a good amount of space. (more space than a 3 series, but less than an SUV or the 7 series while also being cheaper and giving better gas mileage than the other options).

Personally, I don't think I would ever get a 528i... not enough power for me. And if I were really crunched for gas money or wanted practicality I probably wouldn't be getting a BMW...

Any BMW from around the world? Either a 535d Touring or 335d Touring. Exceptional mileage, power and torque all around, and lots of room it being a wagon.

I was thinking more US based, and also what people would find the most practical and enjoyable to drive. That could be as practical as a sports car, or SUV depending on how practical it may be for the persons lifestyle.

I just didn't want someone to say the most expensive BMW, just because.

Oh, then for me it would have to be an E93 M3.

I live in Los Angeles were convertibles are awesome. Plus, fitting people in the back isn't that bad. And considering my 'lifestyle' and age, the convertible would be practical, and the M3 is a beast!

In that case an e91 328 or an F11 528 . I do far too much city driving so I don't need anything incredibly powerful (my fun weekend ride is my e30) and I'm a fan of the touring/hatch body style.

1988 M5 or 1980-ish (E12) M535i. In my opinion, these cars represent the ultimate vintage of the ultimate driving machine...

3-series sedan. Good balance of space, fuel efficiency and sport/style/luxury. I had 2 e46 sedans and they were great cars, and the models since then take it up a notch. The only reason I don't have a sedan now is that I don't really need to put adults in the back seat very often, so I opted for a 335xi coupe. I need all-season traction, so the xi model adds that as well.

535d. What more do you need in life. Fast, practical and decent on consumption.

335xi - great power, 30+ mpg, xi when you need the added traction. You can daily drive it and the ride won't be so harsh, very smooth power curve, lots of torque down low in your normal driving power band, and when modded it can be a very capable track / quarter mile car. Now is any of this really practical? No, it's more versaitle than practical (swiss army knife of cars). Like others said, I wouldn't be buying a BMW for practical.

335d if it's u.s. based. 320d if it is off shore. Nothing beats 40+ mpg and the reliability of a diesel.

My first BMW was a 2003 325i with sport package and 5-spd manual, and I thought the car perfectly exemplified what people love about BMW sedans - it was fun to drive, yet eminently practical; though I've since bought BMWs from the sportier side of the menu, I'd have another in a second.

F30 335i (the one which I have right now) or a F30 335d (if) just because op the higher MPG vs my current F30, that's all.

Those are the most practical not too small/not too big BMW's with practicality(2 kids here) and still driving fun when needed.

A 5 series F10 is way too big and heavy.Been there done that.
And a 1M is fantastic but not very practical for a family with kids.

TBH I don't like SUVs from ANY brand. Except a LM002 Lambo LOL.
And I don't like stationwagons(only my last trip to the cemetery thank you), though the F11 stationwagon 5 series looks very cute. I prefer the saloon version.

EDIT: I forgot the new F10 M5. Supersexy and superfast. But too expensive(and heavy/big) overhere to begin with and the MPG would kill me I guess.----->RIP. F11 Touring in black please.
