2016 X1

Not sure on the credibility of the source, but interesting. Maybe a manual trans? Hope so.

I like it. My biggest minor complaints would be nose too long, and interior too tight. Also steering a bit heavy sometimes. But still love my X1 !!!

Even if it's not offered with a manual , it's chassis mate, the next Countryman will almost certainly offer one.

Being fwd with Haldex and a transverse engine it should also have a shorter hood and more effective use of interior space. It wouldn't surprise me if its a smaller car with more interior space.

Do you notice the differences between the two renderings? I like the brown one, but not the other. Also, no 6 cylT, or anything over 231HP?

The interior should be very similar to 2 series active tourer which is quite nice based on pictures.

One big difference with current X1 will be much wider trunk. The main issue with current X1 is the trunk width between wheel housing is really narrow. The wider tracks and different suspension has made it much wider in the active tourer, it should translate to the future X1.

Anyway dynamically it wont be as good as the current car due to weight distribution issue.

I think those look great and in line with the current bigger X series. I seriously doubt manual transmission in North America though.

I was hoping for this one
http://f48.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=967288

Hopefuly this time, they will provide a spare, maybe someone in there has the brains to figure out that an OUTDOOR vehicle needs one.
I would like to see them deep in the Canadian Rockies with those runflats, not only finding a tire shop, but finding the right RFT, since not even the dealer doesn't have it in stock...

And no RFT please.

It's BMW we're talking about. It's gonna have RFT's. It's also not really an off road vehicle and changing it to fwd with Haldex is going to make it even less capable.

It already has made it to the U.S.....in the new Mini Cooper. You can buy one today. And with the new X1 sharing it's platform with the new Countryman, its a sure thing. They need to do it for gas mileage. This govt will never allow cheap fuel. Now that prices are dropping, the govt is gonna boost the gas tax to make gas more expensive. Front wheel drive, three cylinder BMW. Get used to it.

I'm happier with a chassis based on rear wheel drive initially. If BMW wants to make a really small car, they should call it something else rather than claim it's part of the X-clan.

What's wrong with everyone? Doesn't everyone realize BMW is neutering our X1. Come on, NO REAR BIASED ALL WHEEL DRIVE, NO HYDRAULIC STEERING, NO 50\50 WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION AND OH! NO LONGITUDINAL INLINE 6 cylinder. ITS SHAMEFUL TO RUIN A GOOD THING. DO YOU REALLY WANT TO GO TO AN X3. OH HELP US IF X2 IS BUILT ON THE SAME PLATFORM. Just shameful.

An turbo inline6 (N55) will not be available on FWD platform. Just for clarification.

My 2015 X1 35i delivered last month was what I wanted: long hood and six banger under the hood. I firmly believe both will be gone in 2016

There will be an AWD option, so it is not really FWD. It is a trade off between weight distribution and packaging. It won't handle as neutral as the current car, but the boot will be more useful. The current X1 boot is too narrow due to rear suspension design.

Yes, front wheel biased AWD. No matter which way you look it's a loss and step back for current X1 owners. 2016 X1 will not be a performance vehicle. It will be a comfortable grocery getter.

I think for 90% of drivers it will be a better car (lighter, better packaging and nicer interior), for the 10% who driver really hard the current car is better.
