Not seeing a lot of tuned up X1?

How come I don't see a lot of tuned up X1, compare to X3, 3-Series and even 2-series. Is X1 not cool or just not cool not matter how it is tuned?

How would you know that they're not tuned? Do you break open the hood of cars you pass?
Some of the allure of the X1, and particularly the N55, is that it's a "sleeper car". It may look like a grocery getter, but it smokes most other non-sports cars, and even some of those. Stock, it's likely the second fastest non-M gas-burning beemer on the road. And with, say, a Dinan tune and an improved intercooler, it is even faster. And you still can't tell.

Perhaps you meant visually modified, and not tuned? There are a few modded X1s, but that kind of detracts from it being a sleeper car.
I like having my wolf in sheep's clothing.

Based on the OPs other threads and posts I assume "tuned up" refers to visual modifications.

The broader question is, how many CUVs does one usually see that are modified? Not many. For the most part its a grocery getter driven by women. There are exceptions but this class of vehicle isn't one you see slammed and murdered out.

Most of them are probably leased. They lease incredibly cheap, and nobody wants to bother modding a leased vehicle.

There are plenty of modified ones on this forum, if you look at some of my past posts you will see mine. On the road, you just won't see a lot of X1s period, let alone modified ones.

Funny folks mention the X1 being a sleeper car. This winter at a light I switched lanes and pulled next to a BFT (big fricken truck). You know the one that is all jacked up with big tires. I did not want to be behind the pickup truck because it was a stinking diesel burner.

Before the light turns green he is revving the engine and creeping forward so he can be first out of gate as after the cross street the road goes from two lanes to one and he wants to be first. The light turns green as he goes for it. I let him get in front by a car length and then punch it. Before we get to the other side of the cross street I am now in front, I signal, pull in front, and continue to blow past them. My wife was just laughing.

As for visual mods. I have agree that currently there are few X1 out there. Sure are a lot at my dealer. Given the few numbers they are distinct enough as is.

I'm more annoyed when I can't find reviews of our X1 by Top Gear or Motor Trend Channel or /Drive.. I want to see the performance part of it on tracks, curvy roads etc, compared with it's compatitors etc not all those practicality and economy aspects of it and literally I have gone thru all the reviews in Youtube that are in english I know economy and practicality are important aspects but I'm just tired with every other reviews talking about the same..

You started a bunch of threads with dumb questions in this forum a few months ago. Did you ever buy an X1?

Different demographic really. Nothing wrong with smart tuning but I see some of those threads and its obvious some people are all about the kills. I'm not saying I didn't focus on power in my 20's but we were tuning NA engines to autocross faster. I honestly could not care about more power if it risked my engine going boom, so a 400 WHP car is meh to me.

I also don't believe in modify it then rip it off if something goes wrong and take it to the dealer for warranty. Its a bad way to roll and the car gods should punish you accordingly.

Still got 3y 30K on factory warranty on our recently purchased used X1...I gotta admit the Dinan flash to me is tempting. More money yes but a clean reflash and to me what the car could use a bit more of: mid-range torque, without going nuts. JB's stuff has proven worthy but I also see plenty of code threads...so its not always plug and chug.

My first mod is simply performance snow tires: best investment in safety for us north eastern folk.

For a counterpoint, my first X1 which wasn't really modified had to be lemon-lawed. My second X1, which is modified with 400whp+ and running on an E85 mix and was on the racetrack with only 200 miles on the odometer, now has 40,000 problem free miles.

I maintain the car ahead of the maintenance schedule, however. Oil changes every 5k, new plugs every 12k.

I am sorry if it bothers you. Having said, if you dont like my posts or threads, then why don't you just leave it alone? By no means this is an expert/guru forum correct? It's not like I am spamming your emails or SMS, and asking you to answer.

I have been learning a lot from helpful members here that shares their perspective and experience. Just want to say Thanks to all of you!

I have lots of tunes in my X1. It just depends on my mood whether it's Rock, Blues, or whatever.

My engine has the Dinan tune, but I don't advertise it on the outside of the vehicle.

Wait, what?

An N55 2/3/4 series are both going to be faster. So already your statement is wrong. A 5/6/7 V8TT is going to be faster...

What are you talking about.

Not that it isn't a sleeper when tuned...but what?

Probably because you get 3 points for the tune and need ten for the badge lol

Lol, good one, should have the sticker "Techno inside".
Advetise it, +5hp for each sticker.

I keep my tuning sober as well.
You guy's would noticed it but 9 at 10 people not.

That's not entirely true. The N55 X1 is light with a good weight distribution, and while the 2/3/4 might have less air drag and thus higher top speed, acceleration and especially from a stop takes a hit for every pound of extra weight. The 135i is faster. And the 550i.
But otherwise, I think you have to go into M territory. Perhaps the 2er is faster, and if there is a high powered 6er - I haven't tried it. But a stock N55 X1 runs neck and neck against a friend's 335i - slightly faster off the mark, and slightly slower as the speed goes high.

The M235i is most definitely faster, as for the 3er and 4er, they're most likely faster as well. The X1 is not light at all, check your doors. This car is a pig. The 3 and 4 are both lighter in weight than the X1 by 60+ kilos or more. And that's for xDrive models which have the same traction as your X1.

A tuned X1 will certainly be faster than 2/3/4 but then, tune a 2/3/4 and they will be faster.

Do you look anything up before posting? An N55 X1 is certainly not lighter than a rwd 335 or 435. Everything I said was entirely true.

The N55 X1 is like a HAIR under 3900 lbs. It's heavy.

That's like 300 lbs. MORE than a 335 rwd sedan, and still more than an xdrive iirc. If your friend's car is RWD, than you have a traction advantage at the start, the fact that he's coming around proves the point, his car is faster.

Your statement, in fact, couldn't be more wrong. EVERY SINGLE series (sans the electrics) offered in the U.S. has a non-M that's faster than the N55 X1.

Not that I don't love the car.
