XHP is much better all around and allows full customization if you want to. The shift points, smoothness and logic is great in D, DS and M
Sounds like I'll be going XHP, then.

A couple days in and I can say it totally improves the car for the better and I highly suggest it to everyone with the 6AT. I really can't suggest it enough.

OK, so JB4 map 0 is doable for flashing?

With the PS2 and the single turbo firmware I do not like D mode and I wouldn't want to daily in D. With the stock turbo and the stock turbo firmware I'm not sure. I think XHP needs some more refinement but they disagree. They are the only option for transmission tuning so they can safely offer a mediocre solution since no one else is challenging them. On the 335i I always use paddle shifters and aside from the aggressive down shifts I am happy with it. IMO the aggressive down shifts should be a flash time option like MHD's burble. It isn't for everyone and shouldn't be the only choice.

Maybe. Dependa on jb4 fiemware. Best to remove jb4 prior to flashing.

What he said, because the original JB4's had an extra resistor so Map 0 was a true bypass. Once they moved to the ISO firmware, that resister was gone and Map 0 was no longer a bypass, it just didn't do any trickery.

Just remove it, why take a risk for an extra 30 minutes of work.

*edit: they started selling the modules with the ISO firmware instead of making us perform the upgrade sometime back in 2016- from their site " E Series N55 tuners ship with ISO firmware and the board diode cut as of 5/1/2016"

Thanks for the feedback!

I might hedge my bets and go stage 2, then. I plan on running JB4 stage 2, but not going big turbo or anything. I'm planning on going with the "Super License" and that way I'll have access to all the OTS maps and can try out stage 3 if I want.

Thanks guys for the info on JB4. I guess XHD is not for me. I do not want to remove JB4 every time I want to flash. Honestly, Alpina is so much better than stock in manual mode that I can live with it.

Someone might want to confirm if you need to remove it each time you flash, or just the initial install or uninstall. There might be a difference. Kind of like uninstall/reinstall vs change program on a computer maybe, lol.

Just make sure JB4 is in map 0, worked fine for me several times and even Mhd back end flashes. It will tell you if it is communicating or not and then back up the stock or Alpina then make sure you purchase the license and flash the stage XHP that you want.

Mwtrogus, are you running jb4 iso firmware or the older version without the diode cut?

I've since switched to stage 2. Drive and Drive Sport seem better and smoother which is nice for a daily driver.

In an ideal world I'd like to have the stage 2 D and DS, but with the stage 3 Manual mode. I wonder if that is doable?

XHP offers custom tunes. I have only driven on the stock and stage 3 tune but I would like a stock D, stage 2 DS, and a stage 3 M without the aggressive downshifts.

Is it true you can just buy the flashing license (without buying a map) and just tweak the D mode shift points of the Alpina?

So I can confirm that installing xHP with JB4 map 0 works. Thanks mwtrogus! Am taking it easy for 50 miles per xHP instructions but so far, in manual mode, doesn't feel much different than Alpina. I decided to just get the all-in-one license rather than try to modify Alpina to get D mode right.

Following this thread for developments. I feel like the 6AT transmission in the x135i leaves a lot to be desired. The more I drive the car, the more is just feels like it's "lazy". Like a vacuum modulated only transmission from the 1980's.

I have JB4 removed from my car. XHP recommends charging the battery when flashing. Can i just use a conventional 12V battery charger for the job?
