I'll be cross shopping between that and a Focus RS early next year. As daily driver

In person the CTR looks much much better than in pictures or video. The only thing I'd wish they do without is the faux vents. They could have put in real vents, even if they don't function for airflow. If the dealers would stop ripping people off for ridiculous markups, it's definitely on my list for next car.

As someone who also was cross shopping the FoRS, CTR, and M2 for many months here's how it went down for me. I eliminated the FoRS early on as I just could not get comfortable with the seats. The FoRS interior quality was also lacking. I sat in a CTR (dealer wouldn't anyone drive it) and found the seats amazing. The interior quality was definitely higher than the Ford's, but I hated the touchscreen volume buttons. The thing that eliminated it was the markups (in CA, at least 10k on top of MSRP). I've said it many times, I just don't believe in paying ADM even though I could afford it. The last one standing was the M2, which I managed to find a dealer with an open allocation for a 2018 model at MSRP. I don't regret getting the M2 at all, but if the CTR was offered at MSRP, I'm sure the decision would have been much much more difficult.

Why did they fcuck with the good thing?
In terms of its looks, previous generation was a bit over the top, but still pretty hot IMO.
Now it's just a joke...

The best looking of all time in my opinion was the FD2 Civic Type R. Particularly the Mugen RR version.

I find the looks much more acceptable because they're functional (as demonstrated by its crazy ring time).

Except the great big "intakes" on the front and rear bumpers are totally filled in blanks.

Yep, that's the only part of the looks I would change. The rest looks fantastic.

Agree with all of this. I plan to keep my M4 so it will be either the ford/Honda or possibly the golf r because every time I begin the convo and there's a VW guy around they scream golf r. So i'll give it a fair shakedown.

I'm looking for a daily driver with more utility but still some pep to it. I need the rear seats to fold to throw work equipment in the back.

Exactly. The only changes I would make to the Golf R is to go back to less exhaust tips and pump the guards a little. Just something to give it some more subtle menace.

With the added bonus that the interior is a million times better and that's what you spend all your time interacting with.

The Golf R is the best daily driver for sure out of the 3 with the best ride quality, least road noise and best interior.
With a DSG; it is even faster than a type R in a straight line but it won't offer the same thrill on track.

The golf R is great in that it offers the same road performance along with audi refinement.

If you track though get the Civic.
The R is pretty tame. I honestly couldn't find any real advantages to the GTI I ended up with. It's a tiny bit faster and it can send some power to the back, but it's heavier, a little less lively and it's not like it's power sliding anywhere. Of course I also picked the GTI over the much bigger Civic Si sedan too and didn't really consider the goofball R. I did consider a Focus RS, but just couldn't handle the interior, and seem to have missed out on the joy of exploding head gaskets.

Wrong wheel drive and 20 years late to the party. I boosted my first Honda in 1994. F20 in a 2dr accord. Honda dropped the ball on the civic once the 2001 debuted.

I did love my EG hatch...too bad they make the ugliest cars ever now. Minus the NSX and SUVs.

Yea I just think of an R as an upgraded GTI, just better traction and 30% more power same driver experience overall.

Saw my first one a few days ago. It was crumpled up on the side of the road... looked like the driver t-boned an SUV. Typical.

If you have a neon green aventador, you need to buy a neon green civic R to match.
