Still skeptical about the performance of the Roadster. I just realized that the Roadster will be producing around 800ft lbs of torque assuming it has the same reduction ratio in the transmission as the Model S. 9:1. A lot of assumptions here, though.

The Rimac is more powerful, yet it doesn’t come anywhere close to the performance figure claims of the Roadster.

I don't have insider knowledge, but with everything moving to Turbos, I think it's the sad truth.

Who knows... Ferrari's next flagship model might be turbo, no more glorious 6+ liter V12...

When will 'fast' ever be fast enough? What comes after 'ludicrous'?

Is this what the joy of driving has become... mere charged-up point-and-shoot earth rockets?

It'll be interesting to see what ultimately defines a Tesla enthusiast.

Max Plaid comes after Ludicrous (it is a pop culture reference from the movie Spaceballs.) . There will likely be a Maximum Plaid option in the drop down menu after Ludicrous Plus.

Most likely Tesla will change reduction ratios since it will be triple motor setup.

He says it right in his comment that he is assuming a 9:1 reduction ratio.

Tesla is providing a torque output at the wheels. For our cars it is a multiplication of the gear ratio by diff ratio multiplied by the engine torque.

Agree, assuming current reduction gear ratio of 9.73 to 1. But Roadster will be triple motor, so they can change reduction ratios for those motors.

Sound is such an important part of my car choices. This literally has the same sound as a blender.

So far, I think EVs can make great daily drivers but pure EV sports cars will have an uphill battle when deriving emotions with their customers.

Turbos already decimated sound. And recent trends have been magazine numbers over actual driving enjoyment, EVs play right into that.

There will remain a diminishing fleet of fun, involving cars, but there will be an ever growing pool of wildly capable, but uninvolving wonder cars.

I've actually decided myself that direct injection is responsible for killing engine notes.

if you think of the mid 90s turbo craze of Supra, Skyline, even F40 they all sounded good.

There must be an interesting acoustic change going on with direct injection. Even N/A engines these days rarely sound inspiring when compared to their immediate predecessor that didn't have DI.

same way the starship enterprise does - reverse the polarity of the warp drive.

I might sound like I'm kidding, but I'm not - an electric motor theoretically has the same "regenerative" breaking force as it does accelerating force.

Ferrari is going to use hybrid tech on its V12 engines, no turbos.
