Agree with Sackman. A car that fit my family, plus a Labrador, sporty, not a SUV, nor a wagon. Easy to get in and out of the X1, even for my Lab.

Same boat. I have an E46 M3 and a 135. Bought a CPO '14 M Sport N55 X1 with just about every option for $36k with 6k miles.

$500 later and it's a 380 HP, AWD hatch with a decent interior, 75k mile warranty for mid 30s. I can sleep at night with that.

YEAH! That's what I'm talkin' about. Good value, IMO.

Interesting in that they listed the X1 as the #1 choice in the Small Luxury Crossovers and SUVs category.

The downside with the MSport is with 19in wheels over bad road surface can beat occupants up somewhat. Other than that I find their opinion useless. Nothing you wouldn't experience in some sports cars.

I love my '13 X1, 45k miles no problems except windshield gets cracks easy...I have to admit I drive 500+ miles per week and rarely see any other X1s..

YEp

Did the same thing for my daughters car, just did it last year. We did a driving school together last week and she turned in the second best time on the autocross, not bad for a 16 year old girl with 3 months drivers license...She got beat out by an obnoxious kid driving a 330 that broke many of the rules...

I have not told her yet about the JB4 tune...maybe in a year or two... Thats for my fun on the weekends if the car is still in the driveway

The disparity in US and CDN pricing is amazing. We just got one mid lease so suckling off someone else's down payment but a new X1 in middling spec is nudging $50K. LOADED is well over $50K.

You can buy an absolutely loaded Q5 (2T not V6 though) for $52K and it's considerably larger.

The ride on standard 18 A/S runflats is pretty bad, too. I can't wait to wear out the stock tires, and get Michelin SS.

Are you sure you're doing an apples to apples comparison? If you're comparing a loaded X1 28i versus a loaded Q5 2.0, the Q5 still seems to be like a good $5k more. If you're comparing an X1 35i to the Q5 2.0, that's obviously not the same thing. Not to mention that the 0-60 for the X1 28i is almost a full second faster than the Q5 2.0...

But yes, we do get ripped off in Canada.

Maybe time is my issue. Bro in law bought a Q5 for $52K all in about three years ago so maybe prices have risen. Still, for $5k i'd go the Q5 in a heartbeat.

Depends on your priorities. The X1 has better acceleration, if we're comparing the base models of each, and by all accounts has much better handling and is more fun to drive. In most other respects, yes, the Q5 is probably a better car.

Well it can hold a ton more stuff for a start, the X1 really is a one person car. Which is fine as there's a market for that, just saying it is expensive and prices will come down now Lexus, Merc, Lincoln and Audi have joined the party with baby SUV.

I'd guess of the brands you just listed, only Audi might get cross shopped. And a Ford Transit holds a ton, doesn't mean I want one.

It's interesting how differently people use this car. Ours is relatively huge compared to our past cars and serves as our baby and dog hauler. I can't imagine anything bigger and in fact we bought the X1 because the F30 just seemed too large. The GLA45 and Macan are possible replacements, with the Macan likely being too big.

It's freakin small, a right pain to put a child seat in and hopeless for a Home Depot run. it can barely carry it's own wheel;s and tyres!

I have a 9-3 wagon that does the family hauling and Home Depot runs, it's brilliant at what it does.

Works for us, I guess when you don't know any better, it's all okay. Makes ten hour road trips just fine, holds four adults when needed, carries bikes, skis and Lowes just fine. I'll stay away from Home Depot since clearly they have bigger things.

And what the hell, I could get my wheels and tires in my M Coupe, you must suck at packing.

I managed to get a 55" Samsung TV in the back with the hatch closed, 58" TV was about 3" too long. So I think the X1 is a great size. If you need something to do Home Depot runs and carry drywall or whatever, buy a truck. Nobody's ever complained about rear seat space in my car either. Except my friend who is 6'4". He complains about rear space in everything.

I test drove the Q5 and GLK before I bought my X1 and I found both very nice rides, but not exciting at all.
I still look forward to driving my X1 every time.
I guess we all look for different things in a car, otherwise we would all be driving a Camry ;-)

Q3 and GLA are to compare with a X1.
You could compare everything in the end.

Why do people review small cars and then complain that they're small????? The X1 is BMW's smallest SAV. If you need more space, buy an X3 or an X5!

If you like Hondas and you have 4 kids, you don't buy a Civic and then complain that you can't fit your four kids in the back....you buy a Pilot.
