Can someone confirm ambient lighting?
So I have ordered an xLine model and am struggling to figure out what they mean by ambient lighting, what does that include exactly?
They also show the extended lighting package as an an optional extra so exactly what is ambient lighting and the difference between it against extended lighting? |

ambient light is the light that shines over interior at night time and the lighting package is the exterior. xenon headlights and led rears ( worth the extra money )
ambient light is a dim amber color light that shines over the interior console so you can see all of the controls when it is dark inside the cabin. lighting package will upgrade the basic headlights to the xenon lights and you also get upgraded LED rear lights. a must if you are ordering your car, good luck hope that answers your (?) |

In the UK the LED tail lights are standard. Xenons are a separate option. The extended light package has illuminated footwells, vanity mirrors, glove box and exterior door handles. The ambient lighting is standard on all but the SE. I guess it is as somebody has already said the lights that shine from the roof area onto the centre console / gear lever area.

Are you sure the tail lights are LED as standard in the UK? If so that's a result! |

Rear lights with LED technology. Rear lights featuring LED technology with Brake Force Display helps vehicles following you to properly assess your braking situation: brake light intensity is increased in the case of emergency braking. In this way other vehicles are able to differentiate light braking from full braking – for increased safety when driving. The boxes are black in the brochure which means it's standard. Phil |

I think you'll also have an option of ambient light color on Xline (something you can change from the idrive menu). The ambient light is in the center under the head unit, and in the door pockets. On the M Sport at least, you get a choice of white or amber for those lights. The ones in the roof area are always amber.

Yes you get to choose between amber and white as colours. LED tail lights are standard.

- L/R Front Door Pockets [Amber or White] - L/R Rear Door Pockets [Amber or White] - L/R Front Foot Well [Amber or White] - Center Console via LEDs above shifter [Amber] - Storage area behind shifter [Amber] - Storage area if no iDrive screen option [Amber] All the ambient lights brightness is controlled via the OBC dial on the turn indicator stalk...linked to the dash lights. I keep mine at max brightness for the best effect. I think the white light option isn't bright enough against the black trim/carpet, so amber looks the best IMHO. Perhaps the white works well with a tan interior?

Didn't know you could make the brighter via the stalk. Thats good to know, thanks Scott!
I thought the Xline might have had a different color than white (the mini coopers have a range of colors to choose from) and the option screen specified line. wasn't sure if M Sport and X Line had some sort of color theme to the lighting. |

Do you have the lighting package? I'm thinking that might be required to get the white option in the iDrive screen. But you aren't missing out if the white option isn't there...it just doesn't look like classic BMW.

I have a 35i so xenons, etc., are standard.

While xenon is standard on the 13's 35i's, the lighting package was still an option and includes additional interior lighting and auto high beams.
Ambience lighting is still an option on 14's, just bundled with the Ultimate package. Auto high beams being a stand along option. |

ah, that makes sense, I have the M Sport with Ultimate package.
but yeah, your not missing anything. I actually like the amber better than the white (it matches the rest of the interior lighting better) |
