USB connector in glove compartment?

I just found a USB connection on the left side in the glove box. Is this useful for any purpose or is it for BMW repair people?

It's for importing music into iDrive.

Like importing to an internal storage? Because now I use the USB connection adjacent to the AUX contact to plug in a memory stick for music to my radio.

Yes, exactly that. For whatever reason, they gave us one USB for transferring files, and another one for just playing stuff.
