2016 X1 Loaner Impressions

I have a 2016 X1 loaner while my car is at the dealers for some minor work.

Overall the veh is almost exactly the same as mine with the exception of the hatch struts. The struts are much larger than the ones on my '13. You still have to manually raise the hatch to 1/4 way open before the struts continue opening the hatch on their own. I was kind of hoping that the larger struts would open the hatch on their own, but alas they don't.

The loaner has heater seats, which mine doesn't, but they are useless on Fl in the summertime.

Overall impressions are that I am keeping mine.

The strut review was the only difference I noted. Oth than that, it was the same as driving mine. It is an S Model and so it only has FWD which was adequate. There were no oth changes that blew me away, just the same or extremely similar to mine. I was expecting to be blown away but wasn't. One other thing I didn't like is that there are no Angel Eyes, it does not have HID and so the DRL are just the bright light bulbs at a lower voltage.

The X5 loaner I had a while back DID blow me away. The amount of tech was mind boggling and I loved it. It had all of the bells and whistles: lane departure warning, adaptive cruise, HID, HUD, adaptive lightning, collision avoidance, fantastic sound system, smart phone integration, heated everything, and much much more.

If the X1 even had some of that, I would have been impressed, but it didn't.

Blown away?? isn't everyone expecting to be disappointed?? Did you drive the new model, as in the more SUV type thing or the current shape?

Next car must haves are HID and HUD.
HUD is probably the most useful tech addition i have used in a car.
I can't believe HID is not standard by now.

I don't see how this was the all new 2016 X1. It doesn't hit showrooms until the Fall...there have been NO deliveries in the US of the 2016 X1.

The new X1 is entirely new. Everything! Clearly you were driving the 2015 X1.

And the 2016 X1 will have everything you mentioned (if I remember correctly): "lane departure warning, adaptive cruise, HID, HUD, adaptive lightning, collision avoidance, fantastic sound system, smart phone integration, heated everything, and much much more."

Yup...hence all the confusing in this thread.

OP, you weren't driving the new, redesigned '16 X1.

Makes the comments about the hatch struts make more sense. He was driving a car nearly identical to his, so you have to focus on the details.

lol. I don't know if I would take a review seriously from someone who thinks FWD and RWD don't drive differently. Definitely has to be a '15 model.

Yeah....clearly driving a 2015 and not even aware that his car is RWD. Amazing how some people are so clueless.
