engine cover

How does the engine cover come off an N20 engine, is anything attached to it? I want to change the spark plugs.

1. Better off checking, for example, the 3 series forums.

2. It's an engine cover. Pop the hood and take a look, see if anything is attached to it. But I don't think so.

May have to remove the cowl first if it's like their other engines.

Take a photo when you have it off, I'm curious to see what's underneath :-)

There is a plastic engine cover, and a cowl:

The cowl is the long black piece spanning the strut towers below the windshield. On most BMWs, you need to remove this first, before you can remove the engine cover, as the cover extends under the cowl (long, inline 6s that almost sit against the rear firewall).

Not sure if that is the case on the N20, possibly not by the looks of that picture. And if not, that's a good thing...as pulling the cover is only a handful of small bolts at most.

Yeah, I'm looking to remove the plastic cover. I didn't see anything that attached to the engine I just want to know how to get it off. I don't want to yank on it and break anything. Has anyone done this that can enlighten me?

Just try pulling up gently on the front. I've never touched an N20 but that is how every engine cover I've ever encountered comes off. It's not going to be rocket science.

In my n47 I can just lift the front to unclip 2 fasteners on the left & the right and pull it towards me to take it off but your one in the pic looks slightly different to what my engine has so not 100% sure if you can do the same to take it off..
