8-way adjustable seats. Tilt is missing.

Hi all!

Took a delivery today on mine sDrive28i. List of standard features says: "8-way manual adjustable front seats"

I read the manual and 6-ways are present: Forward/Backward; Height(up/down); Backrest tilt. However Seat Tilt is missing. There is no lever on my seat where the manual states it is supposed to be.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Don't have my X1 yet, but I think seat tilt is just for sports seats. Do you have the sports seats, or regular seats?

The car does not have any additional package. So I guess it has regular seats. However the list of standard features says "8-way manual adjustable front seats". This means the basic seats must have 8 way adjustment. Which is not true. Guess going to ask a dealer to get 8-way seats for me.

I believe my E46 manual sport seats advertised 6-way adjustable (did not include thigh adjustment), so there was not a tilt adjustment. You may need to get down on your hands and knees to examine the seat and locate all of the levers.

I did. Here is the picture from the manual. And two pictures of the driver's seat - left and right corners.

On the regular seats, adjusting the height simultaneously changes the tilt angle. So technically they could argue that it's 8-way adjustable even though you cant control height and tilt independently of each other. The pic you're showing from the manual is a pic of a sport seat, which does have independent tilt adjustment.

No it does not. I just tried. It does move the seat back/forth somewhat. But no tilt. The manual says nothing about tilt being part of the sport's seat.

As far as I see it 8-way manual seat is false advertising.

Fordward and back - 2 ways
Up and down - 2 ways
Seat back tilt - 2 ways
headreads up and down - 2 ways

8 Ways.

The Sport seats come with the tilt, leg extension and adjustable side bolsters and are 14 ways.

Let's just say BMW's description is very vague. This is the factory description for the seats:

Regular seats:
"8 way adjustable front seats"

Sports seats:
"8 way adjustable front sports seats with adjustable back bolsters, 2-way manual thigh support, 2-way manual headrest and driver seat and mirror memory"

Ignoring the fact that the manual sports seats do NOT come with seat & mirror memory, the description itself gives no indication that the manual regular seat is missing a tilt adjustment. Lame.

Overall, I have to say that the manual seats, both sports and non-sports, are poorly implemented. The fact that you have to hoist your butt up off the seat with the steering wheel in order to raise the chair is ridiculous.

Vaguely related.... when i was looking at the X1 seats at the dealership and comparing it to the 135 and my moms x3 I now wonder, are the X1 seats the same as the X3 seat or are they 1 series seats? (sorry for being so specific)

They are closer to if not exactly the E9x 3 series seats and definitely not X3. I have always felt that the 1 series seats are slightly narrower but this could just be a personal perception as the design is exactly the same.
