Smile BMW Station for I-Phone

Just installed the BMW Station for the Iphone 4.

Really great integration for people who have the non i-drive version.

Works really well, I now really enjoy listening to a whole bunch of Internet Radio stations.

I got the item shipped from Baum-BMW in Germany for Euros 300 to India. It took just under an hour to install the part.

Just make sure you also order the correct bracket for your vehicle as you need it to mount the iphone holder.

My next upgrade is to replace the halogen with the bi-xenon headlamps. I got that shipped from Leipzig, Germany. Will post it when I complete the installation.

The last picture is the X1 being blessed by a Hindu Priest before being registered.

Nice work there!

Did you swap the upper storage bin with a new panel?
Do you mind to share some link and part number?

Thanks!

Part Numbers for BMW Station -IPhone

Yes you need three parts:

First you need the FREE IPhone application - BMW Link. It is currently only available from the German itunes store. So you need to set up an iTunes login using a German address - I used a hotel address that I had stayed in. The size of the app is a whopping 1.8 GB.

Second is the Station - the part number is 84 21 2 219 208. I got that from Baum-BMW online store. They sell it for 199 euros. It comes complete with the wire harness and end connectors. Just plug and play.

The third part is the plastic piece that replaces the compartment cover. It is model specific and the part number is 84 21 2 219 865. Baum BMW sells that for 50 euros.

Then there is the shipping cost. Typically 50 euros for Asia and America.

If you need any more help let me know.

Brilliant, read up about it and it's an official BMW retrofit option for models including the X1. Will ask my dealer about it.
The app just looks great to control navigation and music.

How much is the BMW Apps?

Can we still use the Apps without the station??

Do you have Bluetooth preparation on your car?

I would like to connect my iPhone4 onto my car via the original USB cable from apple.

What does it come with the iPhone station?

BMW Iphone App

Hello again,

The BMW Link App is FREE from the German iTunes store, just that its a 1.8 GB download.

The link for Baum-BMW is: Here

Yes you can use the BMW Link App without the Station, but you will not be able to listen to music via the car speakers and will not be able to charge the Iphone.

Connecting it through the USB+Aux port will however enable you to both charge the phone and listen to the music via the speakers. However the music will not stop if you receive a phone call.

My car does have the Bluetooth preparation and hands free telephone prep.

The Iphone station comes with the following: Cradle to mount the Iphone + the wire harness and end connectors to hook it up with the BMW Radio. It also has a control unit.

Here is the the link to the BMW website:

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Good Luck

Here's another link for the BMW Station http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/acc...ity/index.html

I already have the basic cradle-free Bluetooth phone option.

Do you have a link for the products on the Bmw Baum site?

Also... Did the kit just connect to the standard headunit?

Thanks. J

Just to contribute to the discussion, I found the BMW Link manual:
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/bmw...ink-manual.pdf

And the link to the german appstore:

what i would interrested to know is how do you remove the existing storage compartment with the door....
It would be neat if you don't use the cradle, it would be hidden behind the door.

This iPhone Station is meant to route all music through the head unit, and the same for phone calls.

Do you think that part number is for cars with bluetooth already?

Does the nav instructions or the iPod come through the radio if you don't hook up the aux?

What were the connectors to go into the head unit?

The storage compartment on the X1 is removed by removing two trox screws at the bottom. You then have to substitute it with the plastic bracket. The cradle then mounts on the plastic bracket. The whole point is to have no visible cables, if visible cables are not an issue you could just use the USB + Aux cable and route your music to the cars speakers.

You don't need the Bluetooth prep for this option. All audio output will be routed into the car speakers. I don't have a part number for the cable.

BMW Station Installation Instructions

Attached is the instructions, unfortunately its not in English, but in German.

However you can use Google Translate and read it.

Gives a good idea of what the prerequisites are as well as the cable specifications.

The torx screw is hidden by the vent outlet right?

and also, I saw the instruction would require you to re-pin!

I love these bimmer instruction.

Does any one else have access to this BMW TIS?

It would be neat to have all the retrofit instruction possible for the X1....

It would be super neat to have to achieve and share to others...

Well the trox screws are relatively easy to access once you remove the vent + wood trim. They can be removed with a trim removal tool.

Of course you do need to re pin, but that's not such a big deal.

Unfortunately TIS is not available for the E84 as it is not yet a current model in the US.

One certainly needs a little previous knowledge worrying with automotive electrics.

Certainly this is not like putting together an IKEA Billy book case!!!

Thanks for the uploads, so it needs coding as well.

I think I will wait for the UK dealers to get this and then fit it myself and take it in for coding.

Unless the upgrade path is there in the latest version 42 cip, I will have to have a look over the weekend. If I can code it myself I will have a bash and order from germany.

It is a shame you can't tell the BMW link to look at other GPS software, I have Navigon on my phone and would rather use that.

Uploaded the unofficial English translation. I am sure that there are loads of mistakes and omissions and is only for the E84.

If you have the SA640 (telephone prep) option installed you will not need any additional coding, but if you don't its the same code as the SA640.

Good luck in your installation.
