18" or 19" OEM wheels for X1?

18" or 19" OEM wheels for X1?

Is it worth the upgrade to 19", or is it better to buy it seperate?

I have the 19" OEM wheels and only got them because they were already on my x1, its a lease and I won't be buying new tires.

If you ever have to parallel park, you'll eventually make contact with a curb.

If I had the option I'd stick with 18 for many obvious reasons.

Stay away from 19in wheels on X1. Why? 1) harsh ride over bad roads 2) wheel damage from curbs 3) higher chance of wheel damage from hard impacts due to low sidewalls on 19in tires

As usual with wheel decisions, it's a choice between form, and function. If you desire something different, buy aftermarket. The stock run flats contribute to the poor ride for obvious reasons.

Our 2013 M-Sport came with the 19' wheels...they look great, but I only use them for summer; having bought a set of the 18' M-Sport wheels for use with all-seasons for spring / fall, and have 17' wheels for dedicated winter tires.

I have the 19 inch wheels with my M sport package. I think they look significantly better but if I had to do it over I would go with the 18 inchers. Have switched to 17 inch wheels with sport winter tires that aren't run flat and ride is certainly better.

18' or 19' combined with run-flat tires don't make a difference on the quality ride.
So, with non-rft, 19' are very acceptable.

My 18" with RFT (winter) ride harder then my 20" with non-RFT's.

Sorry for the noob question, but why does bigger wheels tend to be harder during winter? Ie; 18" gives a better ride than 19" in winter?

Winter tires should always be as tall and narrow as possible while retaining the same rolling diameter. As such, taller tires will always offer a softer ride (side benefit, more so again if non run-flat) but the reason for so doing is to allow the tire tread to conform to the rougher roads in winter, maximizing grip. Narrower tires permit more traction by changing the contact patch area from square (or a transverse rectangle) to a longitudinal rectangle, thus offer more digging.

Good to know. I've changed too many variables to be sure of what % the better ride is because of the winter tire or the fact that it is not a RFT. I just purchased a Conti comfort kit-12v portable pump for my winter tires and in preparation to an eventual move to a non-RFT for summer 19 inchers eventually.
