Did you think that was a lot of wear?
10mm is a LOT of pad left. You'd have to look it up, but full thickness is probably in the 12-14mm range.

I thought I would be replacing my pads by now. I guess I need to really start stopping and stopping alot so I can make sure I get a break replacement in before my warranty runs out.

My front pads were extremely meaty even at 41K, there was no chance they'd be ready for replacement at 50K. The rears are almost there, and I'm at 47K.

So...
U.K. MY10 18d Sdrive. Had 7k miles on the clock when I bought it in July 2011. I had the rear pads changed for the first time on Tuesday (10th May) with the clock saying 107k miles! The discs (rotas) were still good and within limits according to BMW. The front pads will need replacing in 5k miles (roughly) as that's what the service indicator is telling me. I have never owned a car where I've driven it for 4.10 years or 100k miles and never changed the pads or discs. Maybe it's my driving style or the fact I've done mostly motorway (highway) driving in that time, but I am still amazed at the wear. Still on the same exhaust system too, with no signs of any silencer (muffler) sections blowing... and the CAT is fine too. It'll probably all go wrong now that I've praised the car J. |

Relax... 10mm is still very good!

I WANT my pads to wear out prior to my warranty does. I'm hoping I can get them replaced around 50 or 60k. One BMW break job will make the warranty worth while.
From what I've heard, these cars are pretty reliable by BMW standards (fingers crossed). |
