18" Winter Tires and Wheels - Installed!

Hey Folks,

Just got a set of 18" winter tires and wheels installed this morning. Here are some pics... The tires are 225/45 R18 Pirelli Sottozero Series II RFTs; the wheels are an aftermarket replica wheel made in Germany (18 x 8). So let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

Wow ! Nice rims. Congrats, it will not change the look of your X1 for bad during winter time. The tires seems to be top notch quality too so you're going to like winter after all ;- )

Those rims look awesome!! Really really like the look!! They suit the car.

Almost went 18's myself, but decided on a little more sidewall for winter.

Have fun this winter!

hi Phil777,

Your wheels are very nice. Indeed suits the X1. Too bad I can't find alternative rims in Shanghai, and they don't do trade-ins for your stock.

What kind of fitment are you using? Offsets? E90 offsets?

Hi Mikli,

The rims are an exact bolt fit for BMW's. The bolt pattern for most BMW's are 5x120 and the offset is +36 to +42 depending on whether or not the specific BMW model has off-setting tire sizes (front to back). The replica rims are all the same size (18x8) and have an offset of +35. Hope this helps!

Hi X1 White Pearl. Yes, the tires are run-flat (I chose to go with run-flats since this is my wife's vehicle, and I didn't want to have a situation in the winter where she is stranded with a flat tire if driving out-of-town). I purchased them at Oakville Tire in Oakville, Ontario - if you're interested in getting a price (they have lots of styles to choose from), you can reach them (ask for Ken Borg) at 1-905-847-6000 - he's great to deal with - really knows his stuff. These guys have been selling tires and rims for many years. Hope this helps. The package I chose wasn't cheap, but I like the vehicle to look as nice in the winter as it does in the summer - after all, we do usually drive on the winter tires and wheels here for 6 months!

Our Canadian Spec X1 has 17"x7.5", 5x120mm pattern, 34mm offset, 72.6mm centerbore.

Going anything beyond 35mm or smaller than 25mm offset, i would say it will be too much.
You can go to the E90 forum, wheel section to determine the wheel fitting by youself.

I'm just looking at a set of wheels with 18x8 et35 and 18x9 et38. The offset seems very close. Do you guys think they will work?

They will work likely.

The fronts work as that is the setup above. Th rears should fit as they are only 2mm off of stock for a nine inch rear tire which is 40et.

Yes the centre caps are real - they are from the original equipment summer wheels and snap right into place in these winter wheels.

Ohnoyuji - The wheel you have shown here looks identical to the ones I got (although mine were 18") - is the one in this picture built in Germany? (the ones I ordered were). The centre BMW caps from the summer tires popped out and popped right into these wheels - perfect fit! Looking forward to seeing your pictures next week!

Guys, I got exactly these (Macpek, imported from China and sold under various other distributions) mags originally for my 335 in 17" and put them on my X1. Looks almost identical.

PLEASE NOTE: I've purchased 6 of those mags in two years. Two cracked... You get what you pay for and I would NOT recommend 18".

ALSO NOTE: The hump profile of these wheels is not acceptable for runflats! Even if you have runflats, you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE ON THEM VERY LONG. I purchased non-runflat and got a BMW mobility kit from the dealer (just like I have with my 2011 M3 (M cars never have runflats).
