Clunk When Reversing and Applying Brakes?

'14 N55 X1.

I get a significant bang or clunk out of the rear of the car sometimes when reversing and I begin to apply the brakes.

Appears some 335 guys get the same thing...brake pads shifting in the carrier apparently.

Anyone else experience this?

I have the same issue. And my x3, and 335 sometimes did the same thing. Other cars have heard same thing even. I BELIEVE I only hear it AFTER PARKING w/ emergency brake use. Try without it .. just my $.02

I hear the same thing when I have had the car sitting with the emergency brake on.

I start the car, lower the emergency brake, put the car in reverse and then start backing up. I hear the clunk right after I start moving.

Not sure what it is, but I don't like the sound. Could it be something like the hill brake that is applied when you are stopped at a light when uphill?

You know how if you come to a red light and your going uphill, once you stop you can take your foot off the brake completely and the car will stay there. I forget what its called, but I believe its a brake assist thing to help keep the car in place until you hit the gas.

So just to confirm, I drove a Honda and a Toyota today that did this exact thing ... EVERY time reversing after moving forward. I'm assuming pads moving a few MMs in their holder.

The brake pads are "glued" to the discs due to the heat after parking if you use the hand-brake. If is cold outside is more obvious.
Do not use the hand brake if not necessary.
Anyway, nothing to worry about.

Pads? Don't you mean shoes? I assume the X1 used shoes for its parking brake...
