What are the dimentional differences between X1 and X3? For some reason this car looks big and I do not understand why you would pick X1 over X3... Any ideas?

instant buy.
I love the trapezoidal elements in the interior, both on the nav and the wood on the door.

I don't really get what niche this fulfills, seems to cannibalize the X3 but maybe there is room for something smaller.

The headlights look awkward, sort of like the new 7 but the rear is spot on.

Excellent. This will appeal to the younger market wanting the flexibility of a small SUV but with a luxury badge on it. Probably people looking at upgrading from a RAV4 or such.

I like it but I don't really see the point of small car-like SUVs. If I need cargo space, I'll get either a sportier wagon or a pickup with actual cargo space. SUVs are meant to go off-road. It's the only reason for ground clearance. If that's the case, I don't want to take a nice shiny BMW with a not too rugged suspension off road and get it all dinged up.

the next gen X3 and X5 are getting slightly bigger, the X1 is slightly smaller than the current X3, so the X1 becomes BMW's compact SUV with the X3 and X5 as the medium and full sized ones.

As you can see above, the X1 is taking up the X3 market segment as the X3 is moving up in size.

If there wasn't a purpose and market for these vehicles I'm guessing people wouldn't buy them and they would disappear. The Cayenne is one of the biggest reasons why Porsche is so hugely profitable lately.

is the x5 being discontinued then? Because the x5 is slightly bigger than the current x3
