New intake for my x1

Hey guys,

This is probably the very last mod i will add to my X1. I will try to make a youtube video to show off some sound clips after the installation. 😀

Yes, i will prob not get a lot of gains but oh well, i have always wanted a gruppe m intake...

Anywho, no more mods on my x1 from now on. My next car will be a glc63 when it is in the used market a few years later!

Updated with pictures of intake after installation.

Hey guys, i have updated the op with pics of my new intake installed.

First impression: turbo spool noise is much more pronounce. Induction noise is a lot louder. The diverter valve sounds a bit louder when letting off throttle.

Car feels more responsive, turbo spools earlier and seems to pull a bit harder at top end. Not sure why but jb4 is reporting less avg ign vs stock intake??? I dont understand how the two correlate but this is what i am observing. It was 4.7 now dropped to 3.9.

I probably am not making much more power but hey, i always wanted a gruppe m intake! 🤣 i might get my car dynoed down the road at a local shop. They have a dynojet there. From what i heard, there are stock post 2011 335i that dynoed there in the range of 260-270whp. I wonder what my car would make? 370whp++ hopefully...

Installation: i went to a shop called Cgmotorsport in richmond bc to get the intake installed. The staff there are knowledgeable and really know their stuff! They are well known local bmw specialists and i got to say they are worthy of their reputation. The installer commented the quality of the kit is superb and the installation was a snap. One con of the kit is that two of the screws it came with were a but too short and they have to get me an alternate set.

Anyways, i got to say i love my x1 even more now! It is such a pleasure to drive and is now making some fun noises. I am seeing myself to at least keep my car for at least 3 more years.

I may add a video later if i can get a hold of a gopro... no promises though.

I bought it at gruppemusa directly. Let just say they offer the best price based on my research. U can negotiate for a better price compared to listed. Prepare to wait after ordering though... it took about 1.5 month to arrive.

Edit: fri-0329 is the one u want to order if u are buying

first I will say that it looks nice. Second I will say OMFG that price is astronomically ridiculous! You can almost get a Pure stage 2 for that price.

Yeah its pricey but it is gorgeous. 😁 Have you priced out a mercedes or bmw lately? It costs 2500 bucks for a set of carbon fiber mirror!

Anyways, what are your plans for your x1? Will u be unlocking your dme for a backend flash?

I was going to sell the 335i and move parts over. I spoke with Pure and the wastegate arm is in a different position from on 335i than the X1 which somehow means I cannot use it. If I end up keeping the 335i long term then I will put a big single on it and a Pure stage 2 on the X1. For now I will wait for MHD to go public beta then run MHD only. I will probably run a E30 map as I add other bolt-ons.

The X1 just drives so perfect stock that I am not in a hurry to mod it. Yes I want more power but I know that the more I modify it the more driveability issues I will have.

Sounds good man I can't wait for MHD to be available on our car! I am surprised to hear that the N55 turbo on your 335i cannot work on the X1... I thought the turbos are identical...

Btw, i notice you are from Oregon. What are your plans for unlocking your X1's DME? Are you gonna ship it to twisted tuning?

The X1 turbo just has a slight bend in the arm that pivots at the end of the rod.(pretty sure that is the only difference and they can tell by the part# listed on the wastegate). I am sure you can get the other one to work, might need some Jb4 tweaking on the wastegate position setting. Or thread the rod to a different position, everything else is the same.
Yes and agree that the X1 needs to have suspension in order to enjoy the extra power, it gets sketchy at high speeds, the control arm bushings up front are crappy.

Yeah I know that the arm is bent differently but I don't understand how when you move the entire assembly, turbofold and attached wastegate, how the bend matters. Tuning for my car will be MHD only. Pure offered to help me move to a stage 2 on the X1 if I was willing to send in my 335i stage 2.
