Car shuts off going over speed bump, need advise!

Hello dear users.

I have a question for you guys, I don't know if you ever experienced such issue before. My car E84 X1 is having a problem after going to BMW (all knowing, perfect, amazing, super good) "authorized" service.

The car just shuts off everytime I go over a speed bump with 15mph or above. After shutting off car keeps rolling, no check light whatsoever, until it stops or I make it stop. After such issue, there are power in the vehicle all the lights are operational. However, I happened notice that when I go over a speed bump with like 10-15 mph, especially at night, the headlights and the radio go off just a split second, like a blink of an eye.

I just need to know the potential reasons why this is happening. I checked, double checked, and rechecked every connection coming from the battery, yet they are all very secure in place.

I just don't know what to do anymore, I mean if I cannot thrust the authorized services...

Thank you for your help.

Yes I checked each and every battery terminal, they are like air tight, so I can at least safely say that the problem is not there.

You mentioned this happened after service. What service did you get done?

I think there is a recall of some X1 vehicles for battery cable connection to the fuze box.

Yes there is a recall for certain VINs but they told me that my car was not one of them a long time ago.

The service was about an electrical issue. It wasn't able to engage the starter motor. So they told me that there was a short circuit from the main power line to the starter motor, they also told me that they soldered the damaged wire and then isolate it.

That problem was solved, yet the night of the next day after I got my car back from them, this problem occurred.

Just perfect... So again any idea what is wrong?

I also can provide you guys additional details if needed.

Thanks a lot!

There's wires some where after the push button starter that they messed with to run to big solenoid toward starter.

Now, another wire near stays on all the time to run car. They might have found the wrong one and repaired it shabily before they went for the other one.

I'm thinking they did it.

I'm gonna do it myself, lift the car, put it on a jack stand, remove every screw and try to figure out what they messed up. Because I've never experienced such issue before in the 6 years that I own it.

Never again I'm gonna trust those "authorized" services again.

see if you can wiggle wires as the car is running...the fact that the car shuts off when going over a bump means a connection is loose somewhere...you may be able to find your answer by moving stuff around while the car is running. good luck and let us know what you come up with!

Take it back and have them fix it. Why waste your time on chasing an electrical issue they introduced? If you end up not finding, or making things worse, they may not agree to fix it if you've messed with their previous work. I would ask for a different service tech.
