The drive sold me (out??)
Hi,
I just put a deposit on a 2013 Alpine White X1 sdrive which is enroute and will be here on a few weeks. This will be the first automatic transmission car I will have owned and I'm an old guy; I hope I don't regret it. While I drove BMWs since 1986 (325) and enjoyed my E39 528 w/sport I went to an Volvo V70 R (real R, not R design, w/ 6 spd) in 2006 because I could not stomach the Bangle designs, run flats and no dipstick. My wife is driving her 2nd 328 (my son has her first) and my friend has my old 528. Now I have caved and am buying a car with an automatic, no dipstick and runflats It was the drive that sold me. The X1 sdrive handles like a dream. I don't need the weight complexity and cost of AWD. I no longer do track days but still enjoy the twisties. I get my performance hits from my street bikes so when i could not find a manual transmission car with the practicalities needed for my daily driver I test drove, and bought, the sdrive. Hope I don't regret it. |

Our X1sdrive is our 14th BMW and so far one of the best. It handles like a 3 series, we did get M Sport and paddle shifters but actually I have not used the yet but we only have 300 miles. I'm with you on the all wheel drive living in South Carolina I would never use it. Had two X3's and X5 and never went off road or had snow to drive in.
