Help

I currently own a E90 M3 DCT and I am thinking about buying a X1 2.8 AWD as my daily driver as I want to keep my M3 for weekends only. Just curious if you guys like your X1 and any issues you would like to share. Thank you

Since you are coming from an ///M car, try and go for the 35i, you will like it.

I've got an E90 M3 as well and just picked up an x28i as the family car. The ride is a little stiffer than I wanted in a family car but the handling is great for a crossover. The lack of space may be an issue depending on your needs though. I would recommend getting the 28i over the 35i for several reasons. The 28i comes with an 8 speed transmission (6 speed in the 35i), hydraulic power steering (electric in the 35i), and better fuel economy which will help offset the money you spend fueling the M3 I think the four cylinder engine has plenty of pickup although there is a noticeable lag when accelerating from a stop.

+1
the X28 would be better for economy and family. no need for the 35i if you are keeping your M3 to play with.

I would say the biggest issues with the X1 are space and the crappy audio system. You probably have experience the awful soundsystem if you already own a BMW. For the Space issue it is basically a 3 seater when I am driving and I am 6' 1". My wife is 5' 8' and you could probably fit someone 5' 6" or shorter behind her.

Thanks guys. I am more inclined to get the 2.8 for fuel economy and also heard the 8-speed is a great transmission.

The 35i has hydraulic steering, same as the 28i, it's the sDrive that has electronic. Gas mileage is not stellar. Not E9x M3 bad, but the 28i is probably a better fit since you already have the M3. My wife just preferred the extra power of the 35i and being a manual driver, I prefer the feel of the 6s auto to the always shifting 8s, even though it is a great transmission, especially paired with the N20.

As for space, it's great for us, I'm 6'2", but my wife is 5'3". Unlike Atomic, I can fit behind myself without any issue and behind my wife, I could probably fit a carry on bag in front of my feet, it's worth noting that you can recline the rear seats too. The hatch area is actually my only complaint about space, it's not very roomy, but then the X1 isn't a large car, so that's not too surprising.

Compared to my friends E91 which the E84 is based on, there's more rear seat room and less area behind the rear seats.
