Seat Heat

my X1 is in the shop for some misc items and asked them to check the seat heat, or lack thereof. I feel the seat heat on highest steering even after 20 minutes is pretty poor. Has anyone else experienced this issue? BMW reported back to me, "the Seat heat in all 2013 vehicles does not get as hot as previous year vehicles."

is this a load of BS or the truth? Can someone please report back and let me know.

and yes, i have the seat heat on highest setting, 3 lights.

PS: car is in shop because after they performed my NY state Inspection they gave me car back scratched, so they are fixing it.

If it's lower than previous BMW's, it's a minimal difference. Do you have leather or pleather? I find myself using the heated steering wheel more than the heated seats, but don't find these any different than our 2008 135i and certainly better than my 2000 M Coupe was, but it had much thicker (and nicer) leather.

Is the Prius leather? Are you able to feel heat when you're wearing a jacket and a few layers, or a t shirt? I don't know that I've timed when I can feel heat, but it's quick in ours, perhaps try a few other cars at the dealer?

My X1 has really good seat heaters. I select highest setting until toasty then back it down to the lowest setting and I'm good to go. The heaters are every bit as good as those on my E92.

2012 X1 in here in leather, the seats are warming up properly in 2-3 minutes with Max setting (3 LED) at -30 degrees Celsius. After other 3-4 minutes I am switching to minim (1 LED) and leave it there for another 2-3 minutes and turn it off after that. I am talking with my fluffy jacket on.
Hope it helps.

thanks. i am not happy with their answer of heat is lower in all 2013 cars. i called them and told them i tested another x1 (white lie) and worked great. will see what they come back with. this service center is just killing me. Scratching up my brand new car with less than 100 miles and not giving me BS that they are not supposed to work as well.

Sounds like it's time to go to another dealer.

If you have or have access to an infrared thermometer I'd measure the temps and then compare.

Always go down to the dealership and test it on a like model and compare to see if they're close.

In our 2013, 20 minutes on high and my ass is baked. The heated steering wheel gets very hot too.

with 10 minutes of seat heater on the highest setting, one should be very uncomfortable. If not, then something is wrong.

Just took delivery tonight. Drove with seat heater on highest setting the whole time and it is comfortable...doesn't burn your shorts off like on the E82 or F30. Heat also seems more diffuse than in E82, like they are using different elements (haven't used it enough in the F30 to compare). I like it better than on our E82. My wife drives her E82 at highest setting but still said the E84 heat was very nice even if it wasn't as hot.

"the Seat heat in all 2013 vehicles does not get as hot as previous year vehicles."

This may be true. My parent's F30 is a 2012. However, I feel the 2013 X1 heated seat is better than our E82. The seats heat up very quickly.

I can't explain why HBWT is uncomfortably hot while I am not (I am uncomfortable in 2009 128i on high). I wonder if internal and/or external temps are taken into account.

Mine is definetely not even close to hot at full setting. I was driving in tennis shorts and underarmour shirt today and I had it cranked up and it was barely warm. Going to have the dealer look at it.

Um, it's January. Why not dress accordingly?
I doubt the seat heater was designed for keeping half-naked people toasty in the coldest part of winter.

I was dressed accordingly - it was 51 degrees and I was playing tennis. Besides, the entire reason I mentioned it is because I should be able to feel the heat through a barely-there super light athletic shirt.

When I do dress for winter I can't even feel it through my Loro Piania storm system jacket.

Sounds like your system is defective. I can feel the heat through jeans and a leather jacket.
