After the test drive X1 xdrive20d 177HP

After short test drive, I'm a little bit disappointment.
Everybody knows that the plastic looks cheap.
There is another problem. The engine's noise is too high. In my E91 with 2,0 diesel is quietlly.
Suspension is ok. X1 drives almost like normal car not SUV.
Does anybody has tested X1 with the stronger engine 23d?

This problem unfortunately comes with X1 23d too. Perhaps the X1 cars soundproofing is not sufficient.

You are right. The X1 looks a bit low in the showroom. However i do not exclude that the car might look not look that low once its on the road.

Cars tend to look a bit different once they are on the road. I never completely judge a car at the showroom!

Looks are good though!

I've done better than that .. I bgt and just took delivery of a xDriver23d. Yeah a little noisy, but not that bad. i only notice it pushing on harder than you should be. Coming from a V10 I wasn't going to get excited, so just accepted it.

The car is lovely .. and if you spec it right, it looks and feels fab. I put the high gloss black trim and that material seems pretty good to me.

The performance of the 204hp tt engine is very acceptable. Pick up is really good.

I took delivery of mine november 19th, I already drove 4500km. I am very, very disappointed of the engin-noise, compared to my E90. At a normal speed on highway 120km/h = 2000 rpm), you've got a continues zooming, not really hard, but it becomes insupportable after a few minutes. I don't understand how BMW dares to sell a car at such a price, with such a major problem. Didn't their engineers notice that? If BMW doesn't solve this problem rapidly, I don't think they will not sell as many X1's as expected. It's a peace of chance a took the HiFi-system : with the stereo loud enough, i don't hear it anymore.
So guys, if you get an X1, get the HiFi-system... lol

really? wow, ok .. I must admit I've not done any sustained motorway driving yet. I have been up at motorway speeds for 15-20mins duration .. and without the stereo on .. I didn't really notice it to be honest. but then, my M5 was even louder (albeit a rather nice noise).

Jay - I must say it must be one hell of a car if you can go from a M5 to a X1 and still have a smile on your face!
Cant wait.

I think you have a problem in your car!

I drove an X1 s20d in the highway for about half an hour and there's no anoying noise as you say.

In Portugal, Turbo magazine made a noise test and X1 has better insonorization than an Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60.

I think you should go to your dealer and repair the problem of you car.

The mirrors are big but i didn't notice any extra noise than other BMWs.

quiet engine

I tested an X1 xdrive 2.0d for 2 hours on the motorway, accelerating flat out, cruising at 80mph to 99mph (160kph) on a private road and varying rural roads and thick snow (great in the snow). I found the engine quiet and quieter than my current 3 series 2.0d

However we have terrible road surfaces and the large alloys with run flats kicked up slightly more road noise than my 3 series se on run flats, therefore I have ordered an X1 2.3d with normal tyres and standard alloys.

Regarding engine noise, I can only assume that BMW have improved the engine soundproofing from the first cars off the production line.
