Pretty good review...

It seems the US reviews are a bit more positive than the UK reviews. A lot of the UK reviews state that they don't know where this car fits in; and I get it. They have a lot more wagons to choose from. Us Yanks don't.

And while the new F series is a great performer, a lot of journalist feel that the E90 platform was the best.

Look, if BMW brought of the 1 Series hatch, I'd be all over it. In fact, I've been waiting for a long time. It's not going to happen because our market doesn't demand or justify such a car.

I think journalist are comparing the wrong car to be honest. It shouldn't be compared to the X series; the X1 should be compared to the new 3-wagon. That will be interesting to see.

Bro. The X1 is BMW's 1 series hatch for us. There will not be a 5 door 1 series as we know it coming here.

Unfortunately true.

And BMW already has the corner on the Premium hatchback section in the USA : MINI

They'd be undercutting themselves by bringing in the 1 series hatch. It is a shame from an enthusiast standpoint, but quite a smart business decision.

The Mini is a nice boutique car, with it's weird interior styling and crazy ergonomics. When it came time to get a "premium hatchback", my wife went for an Audi A3 TDI. She liked the standard Mini, but it was too small for her. The 4 door looks just plain ugly doesn't really get very good mileage, which was a requirement. The 1 series 4 door hatch is more like a real car and can be had with a diesel engine that returns great mileage and performance. I think that the two brands cater to different buyers. BMW's US marketers aren't doing their job, as their US offerings are getting too large/pricey IMHO with nothing to fill in the gap on the bottom end.

Sounds like everyone prefers the 28 to the 35... I am gonna have to reserve judgment until a test drive.

I ordered the 35i with the notion that the n55 with a tune and down pipe , exaust and lowered will b a rocket ship. Have a friend with a x5 m and he kicks the m3's on the track. I think the x1 could be a very nice track car for the weekends. I know there is not a tune for the x1 yet, but hopefully it will come soon. I know this will be faster than my 2002, I just hope it will as fun to drive.

I wonder if they will be able to drop in the dual clutch or 8 speed in the 35, that would improve the speed!
