Lightbulb Does the X1 have an electric interior heating element?

My car has been giving me heat out of the vents extremely fast in the morning. I timed it today, and I had warm air coming out of the vents within ten seconds of turning the engine on.

Is this an unadvertised feature? Typically a cabin pre-heater is standard on diesel vehicles, but my 35i seems to have one. I'm tempted to check out a parts diagram later today to verify.

Direct injected engines take forever to warm up, so it would make sense to me if this is true.

Not certain about preheater, but I have noticed that the vehicle will heat more quickly on certain days. Particularly if its cold, say 40°F or lower, but its 60°F, I will have to push the thermostat to 80 or higher to get warm air. Plus, on cold mornings sometimes I feel air coming from around the steering column.

I'm pretty sure it does have a cabin pre-heater. I think all BMWs now have it.

If it does have a electric heater element it would be nice if one of the coding guru's could get it to work with the BMW Remote App like the i3/i8's. Then you could warm the car up a bit remotely.

Mine seems as slow as molasses to warm up. Even the seat heater seems slow. I do really appreciate the steering wheel heater. I don't have iDrive, if that makes a difference.

Interesting. For what it's worth, my car is always set to 68º with Auto selected from the second the car is turned on. Not sure if that may have something to do with a pre-heater being activated to warm the cabin before the coolant can heat up or not.

Overall, both the seat and air heat come on a lot quicker than in my previous car. Which was a 2007 GTI, so I guess that's not saying much.

My CC with the direct injected 2.0 took forever to warm up as well. Direct injection sucks in general for heat. If these cars *are* fitted with an electric preheater, it would make sense as to why BMW did it.
