Door panels real leather?

I've got a 35i M-Sport and am skeptical about the interior...

The front sport seats are obviously real leather to me, but the center armrest and door panels seem to be an even coarser material. Are these Sensatec? Is the rear seat the same leather as the front sport seats? It feels very strange and stretchy, almost like vinyl.

All seating surfaces are leather. Everything else is vinyl. Arm rest, door panels, backs of the seats...all vinyl

For the M-Sport premium sports seats, the back of the seats are leather too - it's the same piece of leather as the top of the front. And the steering wheel and handbrake handle are leather. But the door panels and center armrest are not.

Thanks for the info, I figured they weren't real. As much as my shift knob feels like rubber/vinyl too, I took it off the other day and confirmed it definitely is leather.... just not very thick, or soft.

Back of the seats are not leather....sorry. I have the sport line with the sport seats. They are the same seats that are in the M sport line. Only the seating surfaces are leather.

Double confirmed in the M-Sport today...

My friend's 135is with the same exact seats are 100% leather. But, they use the softer Boston leather, while we have Dakota. The X1 had to keep the cost down, I guess.

I realise it's not exactly the point of this thread, but what's the big deal with real leather vs leatherette? I mean I don't really feel much difference plus it's less maintenance than real leather...

Leather/Leather imposter

My last two BMWs have had leather (standard Dakota in one; sports in the other) and although I like the look, I don't have heated seats. From this point of view if nothing else I would say fabric is better (and less hot/less cold at temperature extremes.....is fake leather better in this respect?.....a sweaty back/shocked by the cold comparison test should be organised forthwith!!)

Leather breathes better than vinyl. Think cow vs a trash bag. But cloth breathes much better than either. Really wish BMW offered the M Sport cloth interior for the US.

How often do you normally clean your seats? I clean mine once a month, I use a cleaner and conditioner in 1 product and it takes me about 15 mins to do my entire interior. The difference is when it's 100 degrees outside and your balls stick to the seat vs no sticking to the seat because you chose leather. Just my $0.02.

When I had leather in my old Acura I cleaned them probably once per year by the end. I do get the point of breathability and I guess it's just something I never thought about since compared to cloth the leather isn't very breathable. Also tinted windows actually helped a lot with keeping the seats cool.

In this car I clean the seats once per month while it's still a new toy for me but I'm thinking back to once per year soon.

Mine has the same piece of real leather covering the top third of the front as the back. No joints, no seams, and it reaches back to the plastic tray on the back (which is obviously not leather).

Much like this:

I think they do now, for the 2016. But that's not the same car, so

Other advantages of leather is that it doesn't become sticky when moist and super-slick when well worn. And if ever in an accident, leather won't burn and melt in a fire and stick to your skin.

Unless you like burnt thighs, swamp crotch, and a sweaty back, stay away from leatherette.
