Phenomenal mileage from 2.0d
Last weekend I took my son back to university and achieved the highest mileage I’ve ever had on the same journey.
Most of it was at 70mph (Tom Tom speed, not speedo) using the cruise control as I find it more relaxing to drive at that speed for long journeys plus less worry that I didn’t spot any speed camera vans on route. A tad boring at times though Reset from start and covering 464miles the lowest I saw was 51.3. My previous car – 118i - used to be about 35-38mpg for the same journey I guess the brake energy regeneration helped a bit plus the lowish temperatures. I'm very happy with the car so far |

I have now done 31k miles in mine ... Overall it has averaged 38mpg (uk)
Short town journeys pull it down to mid 30's My 60 mile return main road/motorway commute gives me between 40-43mpg depending on traffic conditions. I have just come back from a Xmas/new year trip to family in the west of Ireland in pretty horrid conditions fully loaded to the roof with presents and the wife's shoes and a change of jeans for me it averaged 39mpg over nearly 2k miles So a little bit thirstier than a 20d . But what an engine the 23d is )))) It is also X drive rather than S drive The sister of my neighbour has an s20d and she says (unverified) that hers averages 50mpg That is worked out the old fashioned way from fills not obc reading .. But the figures aren't far apart

My ED version surprised me on a summer trip from Portsmouth to Cambridge by recording 60 mpg. Normal summer average is around 53 but at this time of the year it's about 49.

I seriously was going to wait to buy the X1 when it came out in diesel, but who knows when that will happen! I almost bought the 328d instead, but just liked the X1 better than the 3er.

If we had American fuel prices I wouldn't even look in a diesels direction.
I'm surprised by some of the MPG figures i'm seeing for the X1. I guess the 4wd must suck a lot of fuel compared to my current 125d which can do this.....

I can achieve similar mileage if I reset whilst in motion but what I recorded was over 464miles, 3 up on downward journey, 2 up on return and included approx 20miles of stop/start around Cambridge plus several service station stops etc.
It's also punching a bigger hole through the atmosphere than a 1 series |
